You know, not that I want any harm to come to people by any means, but this storm better live up to it's hype. Nobody here in the Boston area is really taking this seriously. My friends are laughing at it calling people ridiculous for stocking up on stuff, etc. because "it's just going to be a little rain and minor flooding".. so I kind of just want it to wreak ****ing havoc.

But really, nobody is going to take any future storms seriously if they don't start living up to their hype. This one has been OVERKILL so..let's see what Sandy's going to bring.

The category system used for measuring hurricane strengths is a flawed system as it only factors in wind. There are many factors other than wind (precipitation, storm surge) that characterize the strength of a hurricane. Recently we've seen Cat 1 and 2 storm doing Cat 4/5 damage because of the size and speed of some hurricanes.

In fact for Hurricane Sandy, the NWS rated the storm 5.7 (out of 6) in terms of damage from the storm surge alone. This is the highest grade ever given in history for this particular category.
