I was expecting 1.2M, but the. I remembered this is Katy, which means hit singles, slow opening and huge longevity. This album is doing well imo.
Stop fighting, Gaga and Katy both can produce good music, they just go down different paths.

Yes, International Female Solo Artist of 2009. She also won a Juno and Echo Award.

I mean considering that she has a hit single, a commercial airing every hour, all the promo they are putting into this album, I expected like 400k.
Now she might sell 275k, but I wonder what's gonna happen to the second week......

NOW - I read this thread for few days ..and I cant with yall acting like 3 years girl over Katy for her selling 300k when its clearly she's gonna have a long run and this album is gonna end up with like 2X-3X plat in the us alone + "Unconditionally" is defiantly a song that can sell an album.

The delusion in this thread.
The Katy fans saying that his will have longevity. Not even Teenage Dream had longevity, it stayed in the charts thanks to the 8 singles and the re-issue. It's not like real examples of longevity such as Back to Black, The Fame or 21, that stayed in the charts for months after the last single release.

After Wide Awake died, it still continued to consecutively chart to this very day. Even before Roar, it was selling 2,000-3,000 weekly.

But you don't need 5 #1s to sell, OOTB is an example of that.

But OOTB didn't sell much though. Compare it to Born This Way, the singles in both eras were about as successful. BTW sold 7 mil worldwide (note that it has sold an astonishing 110k in Taiwan and 800k in Japan - huge accomplishments for a Western artist) and OOTB sold what? 3 mil? 3,5 mil worldwide?

I seriously thought she had 500k in the bag. Her numbers are way lower than I expected.
And death at the people on this forum that swear that anyone can make over a million first week. Like thats such a rarity. Don't count on that happening often.

AKA longevity lmfao
it doesn't matter how its done as long as the album is staying afloat and doing well, who cares?
down play down katys success just because you don't like her. the facts are there, TD was an album with legs, and thanks to a handful of singles that katy put lots of effort into bringing to life was able to keep this album with a pulse for 3 years.
similar albums with the type of longevity that TD had with its singles are Kellys Breakaway and Fergies The Dutchess.

What good is "longevity" when the final numbers remain poor? I expect an album that has had a 3 year chart life, with 5+ hits and rereleases, to be more than just 2x platinum. That's pointless, really. A waste of time and promotion. Face it, her numbers aren't good. I know albums that have been certified DIAMOND in less time than TD has had on the charts. Far be it for me to defend Gaga, because I can't stand her, but BTW did 90% of what TD in just a year. You don't see the problem in that?
Katy's sales move at a snails pace, long after the race is over.

You guys remain pressed. You all said Katy wasn't an album artist because of the poor stats of her album and we get it, Kats accept it. She's a single artist and what's bad about that? She's making tons of money with her singles (and she make some with her albums and tours too so hew cares?). I don't care how much this sells I just want her to have huge success again with Teenage Dream, I don't doubt her about that!
By the way, IMO Teenage Dream had huge success with its singles because of its poor sales. I mean nobody would buy the song anymore if they had it already with the album. Look at Taylor's stats, huge album sales but the singles don't always hit the Top 10 because people had the song on the album already. Adele is an exception, she's clearly the total package!

On next week's Billboard 200 chart, Katy Perry's "Prism" seems destined for at No. 1 debut, as industry sources forecast the album to sell around 290,000 by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Two days ago, the insiders had pegged the set to bow with around 270,000. Some are pointing to Walmart's recent TV commercials touting the album (starring Perry herself) as a catalyst for the growth.
There's a chance -- though small -- that the album could hit the 300,000 mark by the end of the week. We'll have Perry's official sales figure -- as tabulated by Nielsen SoundScan -- on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The rest of the new Billboard 200's top 10 will also be revealed that morning.

I hope she crosses the 300K mark

I have a feeling her 2nd week drop will be soft kind of like Teenage Dream's (~60%) and this will be Gold by week 4.
