Nintendo is playing the long game with the NX. Consoles that have "great" launch lineups like the Gamecube and the Vita tend to fail due to the long droughts afterwards.
The NX has loads of software in the backlog ready to be released year one. Nintendo has barely been releasing new games for the last year and a half, all the games we have now have been out for months in Japan.
“Yes, you are right, and we’re working on [Pikmin 4]. So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”
I'm not even surprised that Pikmin is low on their priorities but at least it will be released on a more successful console so it'll slay much harder than 3
At least one person at Nintendo was way off the mark on how popular the Wii U might be.
Speaking to investors at a recent meeting, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima revealed that at least one salesperson at the company believed Nintendo would sell nearly 100 million Wii U units. The person, who wasn’t identified, is off by about 90 million units to date.
“In an internal sales representative meeting, someone projected that we would sell close to 100 million Wii U systems worldwide,” Kimishima said to investors recently. “The thinking was that because Wii sold well, Wii U would follow suit.” ... Nintendo filed a new patent. It's a "hand-held information processing apparatus," featuring some cool sound and vibration tech. According to the patent, the device will be capable of not only producing 3D sound, but also using vibration to respond to on-screen actions. Apparently, the screen is a touch screen.
