Hm, you're right. When was the last time Rihanna posed for a shoot to cover a magazine for the Blacks?
Essence, Ebony, XXL, Jet, et cetera. Rihanna really is bigger than Black Entertainment.
Poor unaccepted Jason Derülo. Poor pigeon-holed Trey Songz.
Poor untalented fads Tinashe and Jhené Aiko.
Rihanna depends on radio. Her album sales are average, and her single sales are average. She's never had a single debut in Top 10 outside of Eminem's singles. Has she ever been able to even sell 250k+ first week with a single?
Radio just uses her so much 'cause she's popular. If radio turned on her she could easily have a Mariah Carey early 00's situation. She needs radio more than they need her.
Yes, Multiple.
Not quite, theres always Streaming.
I never said Radio would turn on her. And I never said her music didnt depend on it either. Y'all fail to grasp the point I was making. Of course these artists (all the artists that I mentioned) still use radio because its still the main format for a song to chart. I said if all of those A list artists Turn on radio collectively ( with their labels consenting) the charts would have to adjust to the changes in the music climate.

I don't get "her brand is bigger than it." How do you even come to this conclusion? Hate to tell ya, but radio is still a major driving force of artists' success, even more so for Rihanna. I could see if we're arguing Beyonce since she has proven that she doesn't need extreme radio exposure to go platinum and keep people interested outside of the disposable pop fodder, but even then, she still has the urban and rhythmic formats that support her so she isn't without radio either. We haven't had Rihanna on radio for months, and radio is STILL striving and bringing in newer hits by newer artists. Radio is a bandwagon. When they're ready to get rid of an artist, they won't worry about radio listeners tuning out because they know radio listeners are just as fickle.
Saying that Rihanna is bigger than radio is ridiculous. If Rihanna has a Janet-type backlash, she's through.

"Her brand is bigger than radio" means that you dont have to rely on radio stations to know that a new Rihanna song is out. The whole conept of radio over the years is to be an outlet for an artist's music to be heard by millions as it is the easiest way for them to reach such a large audience. Rihanna doesnt need that. Her brand alone is bigger. Hence why I mentioned her tweeting a soundcloud link of a song can trigger more attention than a "big Ryan Seacrest in the morning radio premiere". She's reached that level in her career like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, etc.
A generous singer will put something down the mic to help the engineer get their systems warmed up and at the right level, maybe whilst having a cup of herb tea and checking through lyrics before the session really kicks off. It’s not expected to be a ‘take’.
Stay for example went top 3 before radio started playing it.
Lmao.
'Stay' went Top 3 before airplay, because it was the exact week when Billboard put Streaming into the formula and 'Harlem Shake' immediately debuted #1. That whole week was an utter disaster, and she also had a Grammy performance that week which helped her and everyone else skyrocket further.
Rihanna is not bigger than radio, lmao. Maybe in Europe, but here? Nah.
Her songs don't even debut at #1. They linger in the lower reaches of the Top 10 till radio spins the **** out of them and they *eventually* get to the top months later.

and? That song sold 300K in a week without airplay. My point still stands.
