If no, why? If yes, why?

Personally, I think a VMA award is more prestigious because you have more competition from different genres. Most of the artists nominated at the BET Awards are R&B or Hip-Hop/Rap artists, while VMA recognizes more genres. Another reason why the VMAs are more prestigious is because they award videos and imo, videos are more memorable than singles/albums. For example, when Nicki retires, the Anaconda video will be more memorable than the actual song (but both song and video for Anaconda is iconic).
However, BET Awards are heavily underrated. While they might not be as prestigious as a Grammy or a VMA, it's nice to know that your community supports you and appreciates your presence in the industry. No shade, but I think it's highly disrespectful when a popular black artist, such as Rihanna, doesn't show up to the BET Awards when they get nominated. Like.. BET has supported you since the very beginning yet somehow you think you're above it? Such a shame that Rihanna only attends the BET Awards when she has something to promote (like when she only showed up last year to promote the BBHMM video). Nicki appearing at the BET Award every year just shows how humble she is. She'll never forget her roots, and that's what I like about Nicki.
