I disagree with this except for the fact, you're right, Born This Way
did try to say something as a whole. But so did The Fame and it wasn't superficial it was often
referring to superficial things. You have to acknowledge that distinction.
The Fame Monster did have a cohesive theme, each song represented a different "fear" or whatever she said and where I hardly pay much attention to exactly what she says shes trying to say, I don't think you're giving it enough credit. You're kind of just writing it off as like random or something yet it was 8 songs wrapped up neatly and they all worked together and they all made sense. Thats a lot more powerful than what Born This Way accomplished imo, even if it had something important to say or thought it did.
ARTPOP totally got lost in translation and ultimately says nothing at all however still being a good commercial pop record.
