aww...many excuses exist for not reading so much and I wish everyone well.
The idea that black people have to work 2x as hard as a majority is absurd in this day and age.
In the 80s and 90s yes.
Not now.
I'm living proof.
Work SMART. Not hard.
Example: I lead 10 people sometimes 12...
I wasn't supposed to lead this 1 p.m. meeting. This 2 years out of college blonde white boy that is "somewhat smart" but overall is not the full ticket was supposed to lead the meeting.
Did I know he was going to bomb on his own? Yes.
Did he send me a draft of his agenda and topics? Yes.
Was it garbage? Yes.
Did I have time to fix all of the errors before he sent it out to our clients? No.
Did it matter? No.
WHY? Because earlier on in my middle class lifestyle I was TOLD NOT TO WORK HARD but WORK SMART.
Stay ready so that you don't have to GET ready.
I was ALREADY prepared to takeover that meeting that HE was supposed to lead.
Couldn't even intro without his damn voice jittering and deferring to me.
I took over and let him do the best he could do and it was a learning lesson.
He sent me an e-mail saying "You saved me"
No sht. Not because I looked over his material and had to memorize and work 2x as much as he did
Because my foundation is built on working smart and always being prepared so that i don't have to work 2x as hard.
I'm naturally ready to lead.
I just don't want black people to think that if they overwork themselves that they are going to be on the same level.
Don't you know I'll never be in a position to get instant respect the way this white blonde boy gets and he can't lead a meeting or write worth a damn.
As a person (forget about a minority) you have to be valuable and part of being valuable is always being prepared to RIIIIIIIISE TO THE OCCASION (Break the ice deserved top 10 stats)...
It's really a mental game and once you understand how important your value is you focus on working SMART as it will be more impactful than all that damn workhorse mentality
Why do you think so many leaders "appear" lazy to the workhorses of an operation.
Because the workhorses are not strong critical thinkers. They are mostly good at doing what they are assigned.
You have to be more than that if you want more for life
