My definition of a TOP MEMBER is...
First, and foremost, someone who does not compromise who they are just to fit in. It's far better to be recognized for who you truly are than to be recognized only for who people think you are. It's best to be yourself, and to become very good at being yourself. Ultimately, a TOP MEMBER must be unique, but still find a balance that allows them to coexist with the other crayons in the box.
Second, a TOP MEMBER should live the life they want to live, be the person they would be proud of, make decisions, make mistakes, and if they fail at least it was because they tried. A TOP MEMBER must understand that mistakes are a part of life, and that no one can be perfect, but through reflection and humility one can move closer to perfection in the future.
Third, a TOP MEMBER must be honest, even when no one else is, though they should realize there is a huge distinction between honesty and being a bitch. I think it goes without saying that a TOP MEMBER should be kind, even to those who don't deserve it, because that separates them from the rest of the pack and makes them someone to look up to and admire. However, a TOP MEMBER should not allow themselves to be walked on, and must be willing to defend his or her fave, but not flaunt them in the face of others or actively seek to put others down.
Fourth, a TOP MEMBER is a leader, not a follower, and is willing to speak up for what he or she believes in, is willing to live up to the title by example, not let it go to their head or take it as an excuse to disrespect others. A TOP MEMBER accepts all members of ATRL for who they are, regardless of any personal bias, and should acknowledge the diversity of musical taste here on ATRL and allow others to show admiration for their fave without trying to put them down.
Fifth, a TOP MEMBER must not take things too seriously. Life is too short to not have fun. We know ATRL has its fair share of stan wars, silly arguments, and even some serious haters, but a TOP MEMBER demonstrates an innate ability to not be phased by all that negativity and has fun, regardless of those who try to drag him or her down. If a TOP MEMBER finds him or herself in a situation where an argument is necessary, he or she handles the situation with a class, skill, and grace unmatched by any other.
Ultimately, a TOP MEMBER should embody all these qualities and more. He or she should reflect the best: Fierce like Beyoncé, humble like Leona, kind like Britney, innovative like Madonna, passionate like GaGa, fun like Nicki, carefree like Ke$ha, honest like T. Swift, classy like Adele, true to his or her self like Jazmine Sullivan, and sassy like Rihanna! They must be able to take all those qualities and make them their own, and prove to others why they deserve the crown of ATRLs Next Top Member!
Now good luck to everyone! Hopefully every one of us, not just the winner, takes it upon themselves to embody these qualities. For, in the end, we shouldn't need a title to be the best ATRL members we can be!
