Can someone give me a LEGIT reason how it sounds like SUBG .. I dont want none of that crap it SOUNDS like it .. I want PROOF. Notes, riffs, etc. Ad dont bother saying the lyrics are the same because they are exact opposite songs lyric wise

This song would sound a lot worse with Katy's voice... the verses would work for her, but the chorus would be a big mess.

Pink would sing this nicely though.
Avril would sound horrible with this song, it isn't an Avril song...
and I haven't heard Ashlee's voice enough to make a valid judgement.

And this sounds really different from SUBG
As others have mentioned, the lyrical content is a complete 180,
And SUBG has a rock twist to it, while MLWSWY is a LOT more produced with an electronic beat,
SUBG is a lot more earthy, especially in the verses, while MLWSWY is a lot more ethereal

And what I really don't get is when people say that the intro of MYWSWY is similar to SUBG because there is nothing in SUBG even remotely similar to that intro. The intro reminds me of "It's all your fault" by Pink, mainly the descending line of the guitar.

Though I sorta get that the verses of both songs start lower then make a jump higher, and that it's pop rock (though instrumentally, one leans more to rock while the other leans more to pop).

LMAO. Some of you are either delusional or just completely deaf. SUBG and this are almost IDENTICAL. The verses/chorus structure, the guitar riffs etc. The only "clever" thing they did about it is that they extended the intro from 5 seconds [SUBG] to 15 seconds [MLWSWY], and the guitar solo after the bridge from 10 seconds to 5 more seconds, and a slight twist in the duration of verses/pre-chorus. And changed the lyrics to a happier theme.

If you play SUBG over MLWSWY. You get the same song, basically.

That's another thing. Some of us may be arguing about differing aspects of the song. I completely agree that the first impression of both songs are the same, and that everything about MLWSWY was made to please same audience as SUBG, but I maintain that they are very different songs. Similar length of verse/intro/etc. does not make a song similar to another. Neither does the presence of a guitar solo. Neither does the intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structure. If two songs had, for example, the exact same verse-chorus-verse-and-so-on structure, would you think that the songs are similar?

They do sound similar. They have different meanings, but it's clearly obvious they are very similar. Especially in the beginning, they are almost completely identical. But, I still love this song!

It is indeed an attempt for another SUBG... why would anyone not want the success SUBG? Most singers do not aim for their songs to be a flop.

And if the argument exists everwhere, that means that there are people arguing both sides... that there are people with both opinions. That proves that the songs sound similar just as much as it proves that they don't.
