Like with people way older than you, you have to use formal speech
But with people around your age, it depends on the situation. And a lot of time you use informal speech in a joking way but some people can misunderstand it

Why did she escalate it so quickly? She is the bad one here. If Yewon was speaking informally then point that out and let it go while exposing her if its that big a deal. If she wants to be immature and start cursing then she deserves all the criticism she got
