Where is this misconception coming from? I could understand if they said people with grandchildren and great grandchildren, but adults - in general - are aware of pirating music and if they don't know how to do it for themselves, they always have people who do.

Album sales didn't slow down after them, albums were still fine for a few more years until the birth of limewire.
But they were rapidly decreasing by 2005 the best selling album (Emancipation of Mimi) only sold 10 mill while five years ago the best selling album sold 2x times that
none of them had the global reach or huge worldwide crossover smash singles that adele did
Maybe not Norah, although I like to think she did in her own way. Dido had Stan/Thank You and Amy had Valerie/Rehab. Plus Amy Winehouse's look is iconic. She's this generation's Jackie O.
And 21 is already solidified as a classic by having instant-classic songs and doing a clean sweep at the Grammys. The fact that it's a great album isn't even something anyone disagrees over. BOmT on the other hand...
Norah did, and maybe Dido back in 1999, but those women you named never had juggernauts like 21. Why are y'all so misinformed on this board?

Back to Black didn't sell anywhere near 20 million. Stop making up lies.
The only reason people don't buy albums anymore is because artists like Katy or Kesha (I use that term lightly) release singles that are crap and the GP knows they are crap but bop anyway, but back then people made music with real pain and actually cared about what they made and it is pretty obvious that people used to put a lot more effort into their music then they do today and they didn't make music for the charts
