Yes, "females" tend to be more of the digital consumers but female groups tend to have it easier with digital hits than males imo
Groups with a massive female following like TVXQ, Super Junior, 2PM etc hasn't had a proper digital hit in years.
Female groups have more breakouts as well

Females get easy digital hits because for some strange reason its uncool for guys to like boy groups (There are exceptions. G.O.D., WINNER, EPIK HIGH, CNBLUE, F.T ISLAND, BIGBANG). When a new APink song comes out or top tier girl group, the males are the first ones to go Aigoo Noona is pretty. Fap fap fap (because **** is banned

) Then they move on. But its also about Longevity. You can get that #1 on melon but why would it matter if by next week you are at the bottom half of the top 100?
And TVXQ, SJ, and 2PM while more so 2PM than the other two aren't popular as one would think. I mean koreans pay dust to 2PM who aren't JYP fans and I met only 1 stan or even fan while in Korea and he was a white guy

TVXQ and SJ were big based on these girls I talked to but most of them don't like them anymore as they got older, they are more popular with foreign fans than Koreans.
SM only promotes EXO as their boy group literally only one store had SHINee posters and you couldn't even find anything TVXQ related except at the airport. EXO is the hot flavor. EXO is what the SINGLE female fans want and there are a lot of single women in korea due to 1. the military conscription and 2. the younger generations not wanting to get married anymore.
