Well let me put it that was, it was originated in the gay community, originally played in gay clubs etc.

Just like everything else music can have a stigma and so house music could be seen as "gay" music and have that certain stigma to it.
EDM is an unbrella term ( not a genre) with lots of genres under it. While the many or the majority of those genres might appeal to "straight" people not every EDM genre appeals to them.
Also i've never seen people saying EDM is gay, atleast the term as a whole.
I'm thinking Pop will probably eat this up. Urban is the only thing I'm not so sure about. I'm really happy at how well it's doing so far though.
