For the most part I don't see why any other artist is being compared to Kelly but here is where I think it's coming from:
Avril co-wrote Breakaway (the song). Other than this the two have nothing in common IMO. Avril was skater/slightly punk-pop and then there was the girly stuff but she's never done anything like SUBG or MLWSWY. Also, Avril's been off the scene for a while so I will cut Playboy some slack for not knowing who she is. But when she was around, she was very popular.
Max and Dr. Luke, the producers who did SUBG and now MLWSWY, also produced I Kissed a Girl and Hot and Cold. So I can kind of see where someone would hear some similarities among those songs. However, Kelly vocally eviscerates Katy so I really don't think there is a point in comparing them either. Katy is too flavor-of-the moment to make a popularity comparison; I need to see how a second and third album from her would do before I'd even consider comparing her to another artist.
Ashlee is laughable and shouldn't even be brought up.
Really the only person who can even be somehwat compared to Kelly is P!ink b/c they both have great voices and while their songs are distinct from one another, they are both rock-pop. I could imagine Kelly singing some of P!ink's songs, and vice-versa (as a matter of fact "Who Knew" was originally pitched to Kelly but this was while she was working on My December so she passed). One of my dream collaborations as a fan would be a Kelly-Pink duet, cowritten by them.
