Ke$ha had to compete against rival lead singles "Diamonds" by Rihanna (second most #1s for a female in music in history) and "Locked Out Of Heaven" (arguably one of the most successful men in pop music at the time), as well as smash hits like "One More Night" by Maroon 5, viral sensation "Gangnam Style" by PSY and hit "Some Nights" by fun... don't forget 'Hurricane Swift' with Taylor Swift's iTunes Countdown singles storming up the charts, One Direction's lead single, as well as tracks by Flo Rida, Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City... I mean, there was a LOT of competition for "Die Young", really.

I'm glad it finally managed to get a #2 smash.
I was a little bit disappointed hearing it at the first time but it is the most played song in my playlist now. A truly jam tho
"Die Young" was ahead of "Diamonds" for its initial chart run, too... "Diamonds" only passed "Die Young" when it was on its fast-lane to #1, where it just got bigger and bigger. If it wasn't for those aforementioned hits (One More Night, Gangnam Style, Some Nights) Die Young would have peaked at #1 a lot earlier than it peaked at #2, as in the week of November 10, 2012, Die Young was at #4, while Diamonds was at #5.
Can we make it a guessing game to extend the excitement and the anticipation for the big reveal?
