Notice most of them won't actually post their fave's music side by side for comparative listening because this will air their bs all out and they know it. People that constantly scream "versatility1111!!!11" and then go on to name six or seven different subgenres of two actual genres or naming faves that do the same vocals over various tracks and they know good and damned well...

There is still one very noticeably absent base in that thread and they ALWAYS try it any time Bey's vocals are compared with their girl's . I think the stan posting that pic grid and getting dragged ("ballad" and "club" ) scared some folks off from posting tho.

But yeah, the lacking versatility thing probably the dumbest thing I see people think they can casually use as a "criticism" of Bey's vocals. Even the emoting thing is a better angle (you can't dissect "emotion" and it's literally the only 100% subjective part of evaluating a vocal performance). This is one myth that I'm calling for a cease and desist on ATRL today dammit.

i know this was talked about a few pages ago but i wanted to add something...

Pharrell winning UC was indeed a shock....but then looking more into it...it really wasnt. the fact that he was also nominated for AOTY & "Happy" was a huge monster of a song played into it. but then you have to factor in that Pharrell has been in the game for a long time too. there may be a portion of people that came to know about him & his music with "Happy" but for a lot of ppl...especially urban listeners....Pharrell had been an A-list producer for like 15 years before "Happy" was put out. he was already well known going back to the Neptunes...he has produced a lot of hit songs & great music for other artists...including Bey herself.


having said all of that... you have to consider all the relationships & alliances he has within the urban block too & he may have gotten some crossover pop voters b/c you can vote in different categories. he's worked with people across the board. all the fellow artists, producers, writers, engineers, execs that he may have worked with over the years and/or known. while they may love & respect Beyonce and any other time...would've voted for her. some of them have probably worked with Pharrell on their albums so its a different dynamic personally. if Bey herself wasnt in that category...she & Jay probably would've cast their vote for Pharrell too. so in hindsight...it makes sense to me how competitive it was & why he would win.

definitely not the same situation with Rihanna...for many of the reasons said....but we wont really know until 2/12.

Looking back at it, the whole On The Run video/trailer and additional stuff they shot for the tour feel like wasted potential.It all looked visually stunning, I would love to see all the footage without the tour montage. Also Bey's energy during the tour itself was immense. The first time I saw Diva during the On The Run special I almost got a heartattack from the slayage and the damn caked during Naughty Girl makes me fully straight every time I watch it

Just because you are unaware of the meaning behind some of the symbolism and references does not mean that they mean nothing, wth? lol. If that's how it worked, then most art would mean nothing. Most great artworks don't flaunt their message, they're not overly transparent, they're not direct. That's not art, that's fact, that's science ffff

Understanding art always requires a bit of searching. That's what makes it art. I personally hate exposition in film, so i'm glad the narrative was more poetic in nature and i'm glad she used cinematography, poetry and visual cues and references to relay the meaning.

And yes, people will look up the meaning of things they don't understand.

I mean, if you prefer the more direct stuff, that's you, but honestly she's been there done that, so she should do more challenging things imo. She's not 20, her fanbase is not 15, she's 35 and all that pop fluff is tired. It is without a doubt the most profound work she's ever done, hence it even making the "Best movies of 2016" lists. I mean... I still haven't even gotten to analyse the blocking and composition and things like that.
