I just realized this. I came across Britney's wiki page, and it said:

Meaning, not only did they take a successful chance on her. But her being successful has had a direct or indirect impact on other female artists. And if you weren't gonna be a Madonna, you had to be a Whitney (ala Mariah, Celine, etc.).
