It is mindblowing to think of how close she is to being that. I've been saying on Madonna forums for years Rihanna is a bigger threat than Gaga. Rihanna is the biggest selling singles act and not that far off from records. And in such a short amount of time and at such a young age. I'm kinda proud of her though I sorta hate her

I don't see the need for inflation honestly. Taken into account she releases an album every year (or has done so for the past few years) she sells pretty great. Loud sold 6 million, TTT sold 3.5 million and UA sold around the same, that's a total of 13 million albums sold in three years in this day and age.

If her label bothered with re-releases instead of putting out new albums she would've been in the GGGB territory with Loud and in Loud territory with TTT and UA.

Hopefully the music industry subdivides and creates a timeline of the music industry and have a 'Best selling artists pre-digitial era' and 'Best selling artists of the digital era' to make us oldie stans feel better

Every time this "records" discussion pops up I can't help but think that revenue is a better way to gauge success, given that Rihanna (while a huge force and brilliant pop star in her own right) specializes in $1.29 singles over all else while even singles were two or three times that price or more at some points in music history. Record sales will always increase as music price decreases.

Someone might have said all that on the last page but I'm too lazy to check right now.

is funny how people try to drag Rihanna for faithfully selling +3M ablums each era. Nowadays, I'm sure plenty of girls would sign for their baseline being 3M with chances to do more than that.

Era Rihanna era is guaranteed:

at least one #1 single/global smash
3M+ ablums sold
and a ~year of longevity

And it's consistent and relentless

Being a "singles" artist isn't a drag in the grand scheme of things. Rihanna has a catalog of so many diverse sounds and many of them hits.

Her music is not linear at all, with lots of chances for recurrent and enduring airplay. This is the main area where she ***** on her competitors, but it is underrated to most. She has ballads, bops, mids, features, "risky", pop, crossover, etc.
