Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: VOTE! [R3]
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
Welcome to the third round!
We start this round with some sad news. I guess to all the remaining players they are good, though! That's right, three contestants dropped out of the game and they're out of the race. They are:
2. CrazyCat - Ariana Grande - My Everything
8. Lucky#17 - Tinashe - Aquarius
18. josh_923 - Ed Sheeran - X
We are down to 17 players. Now, last update we had to say goodbye to three other contestants and I obviously didn't forget them! Here's their participation card and the final comment from the judges:

For six seasons this game had its ups and downs and to make sure the 'downs' part won't happen again, I had to create a set of rules. So if you're signing up, this means you agree to:

1. prezli - Nelly Furtado - The Spirit Indestructible: Parking Lot

For this round, I chose "Parking Lot" because it has strong drums that go under the skin, get stuck in the head immediately and you can feel the music in your body. The song itself is about youth, having fun and going out with friends in the parking lot. "Meet us in the parking lot/We're gonna turn the speakers up/Cause we ain't doing nothing," Nelly sings. It's interesting how two different genres R&B and Dance meet each other here.
"Parking Lot" is one of Nelly Furtado's best party tracks because it has a unique vibe what I could call "cheerleader style." Her vocal performance is brilliant in this song: half-singing and half-rapping. She's really good at it, just think of her 2006 hit "Promiscuous" where she uses the same ability. I'm sure "Parking Lot" could've been a huge party song if it had gotten enough promo. This song is easily one of the outstanding parts on "The Spirit Indestructible."
So, what are you waiting for? "Turn the speakers up", listen to the song out loud and let your feet move!

2. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Move

Play it further into the chorus and you’re doing a little lean-back kinda dance and by the end of the song, you’re probably shocked at how much this song has made you sweat…you can’t help yourself! And it’s no shock because that’s what the girls intend to make you do
“I know that you wanna
But you can't cause you gotta
Stay cool in the corner
When the truth is that you wanna move
So move”
By these lyrics, you already know that the song is for everybody. It’s not EDM, it’s not booty bopping, it’s not for da club, it’s just a good ol’ organic feel good song to make you MOVE.

3. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Miracle

Although I'm not one to dance, there's always those songs that can make my foot tap, and one of those is the glorious dance explosion of "Miracle". Pulling from many different genres (disco, funk, dance, motown) many different artists (Prince, Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson) and even a little bit from Madonna's "Holiday", it is Kimbra's most danceable song yet. Although it is incredibly influenced, it's sleek and still very modern. To the "ooh's" and "oh's" laced throughout the track, to the glistening and incredibly uplifting chorus, to the impressive vocal runs, to the scatting in the bridge, to the Mariah Carey references ("you got me seeing visions of love"), it's utterly irresistible. Combining all of these different elements, Kimbra essentially made a song that is totally her, while still showing her love for music of the past, and is a perfect song to move your hips and feet to, whether you're in your bedroom or out on the dance floor. (I'm also including the music video to watch, which includes a different version of the song than I used. Plus Kimbra's dancing is too cute!)

The horns soon jazz up the additional sound composing a medley of foot stomping and groove to suit you whatever your mood. Though this tempo is tempting and the tune infectious the real integral piece that sets it apart from a being a mere party song is surprisingly yet unsurprisingly, Taylor's signature songwriting. The lyric's general and vague themes actually assist in the accessibility of this song expanding the repeatability to being almost all inclusive no matter the setting or situation. Taylor encourages the listener to disregard the negatively and concern of what others think and "make the moves up as [you] go" allowing the feeling to rattle your bones vibrate your feet and fill your head with the exuberance of dancing on your own in a world alone

I'm using "Who Knows" for this round because I'd like to take this round on a deeper level by relating dancefloor to our lives. Life's like a dancefloor, we're the music & in order for us to enjoy the dancefloor/life, It's crucial to be optimistic. That's why I sent "Who Knows" because it's uplifting. It's about loving yourself & living life to the fullest.
"WHO KNOWS what could happen.
Do what you do, Just keep on LAUGHING
One thing's true, There's always a brand NEW day
I'm gonna LIVE today like it's my last day"
The anthemic "Who Knows" showcases Avril's youthful vibe accompanied with uplifting lyrics that makes it a bop. That's interesting to note since Under My Skin is known as Avril's darkest album. The lyrics to the chorus changes towards the end to further empower us which adds to the brilliance of the song. "Who Knows" embodies the message of being confident & importance of self-worth.
So, Just keep on DANCING like nobody's watching because one thing's true, there's always a brand new day!

6. holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Biting Down

Pure Heroine doesn't have any straight up dance-y songs, but Lorde's music still penetrates right into your bones. There's a reason to how she moves while performing.
The main key instrument is the throbbing synths that start right from the beginning. The repetitive, single note synth puts you in a psychedelic trance. After the song has hypnotized you along with Lorde's chanting, the frantic drum beats kick in and your body just sets loose.

The drums are like a call to arms, in this case a call for everyone to start going crazy like Lorde. This song just makes me want to let loose even with it's understated production. Lorde is not exactly a conventional artist, so if you're looking for something you can mindlessly bop to, you will be disappointed. It doesn't make me dance like I'm in a cub, but I do get a raw sensation of release. Just like Lorde, her music isn't dance-y in a conventional sense, yet she performs with her entire body. Dancing to a song isn't about it's pumping beats, it's all about the visceral effect music has on our emotions and that translates to our body.

The song in itself is pop perfection, when the song starts out with the blaring alarm and then escalates quickly into the rapid beat you get a sense of readiness, britney then opens it the song with "hush, just stop..." And the song pauses to pick back up, the song continues to have a memorable breakdown, which makes you want to move. The lyrics are lighthearted enough to be taken not so seriously but just as an overall song to get you on the dance floor and I believe Stronger was a solid Britney hit that even today, would've been a dance floor Banger!

The Velvet Rope is an incredibly personal album that contains dark topics. These topics range from depression, a subject prevalent in the album, to domestic violence, and to death.
Amidst all of these heavy, serious, and angsty tracks is one song entitled Go Deep. It seems to serve as some sort of break from the heavy tracks that preceded it. This funky track was the perfect choice for this round. Its funky, sleek, and sexy nature is just absolutely irresistible. It just makes you want to groove along to the song. The carefree track features Janet dancing her worries away at a club with friends. As Janet dances as she's "feelin' high cause [she's] outta control tonight," she finds a man that she wants to take home and make him "scream and moan." The song's message about letting go of your worries and inhibitions make this a great song to just have fun to. The music video also adds on to the carefree vibe this song gives as Janet participates in a 90s house party. The harmonized chorus along with the funky production makes Go Deep a song impossible to resist dancing and grooving to.

The song I have chosen is Walking on Air.
Although this may be a predictable choice, there is no other song on PRISM that makes me wanna dance as much as Walking on Air.
Walking on Air is styled in the house genre with heavy influences from 90s Eurodance music. Walking on Air is a dancefloor anthem. Firstly, Katy sings in the verses with a seemingly seductive voice. Heavy thumping beats kick in and the build-up in the prechorus is absolutely euphoric and feel-good. The prechorus lifts my moods up till I think I have reached the limit, but no, the chorus which comes after takes me to a whole new level. The infectious chorus crashes in unexpectedly with Katy repeating "I'm walking on air" over explosive snyth beats.
Though lyrically simple, "I'm walking on air" describes my feelings towards this song precisely, because whenever I listen to it, I am in bliss and feel like the happiest person alive. And what do you do when you are the happiest person alive? Dance till you drop!

11. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Good Time (feat. Owl City)

Kiss was made for a round like this, but Good Time is the best available choice. For me, I see a lot of the album as songs that you can sing along to, but dancing along to it isn't as likely. For me, it's either one or the other with a few exceptions. Good Time is one of them. As soon as the first verse kicks in, the beat drops and I'm ready to start moving (you should be too) and before you know it, Carly is singing us into the chorus and that's when I completely just get lost in the song (as you should as well) and just let myself go like the free spirit I'm known to be for the rest of the song. There's a reason I still hear this song at the mall afterall; it keeps you on your feet.

12. Xedretinz Lododnz - Maroon 5 - V: Sugar

This song will really give you a good vibe once you heard it. With it's very catchy chorus and outstanding tune, it's no wonder if many people would bop to it, dance to it, and sing along with it. It clearly brings a level of energy and excitement to the listeners. The song has a very electrifying feel to it. It's instrumentals and vocals will make you feel groovy. Sugar is defined to be a song about begging or looking for love but with it's catchy upbeat tune, it gives a very different meaning to it. Not only the beat itself could make you dance but also the sweetness of it's lyrics. You can sing along with it and at the same time, can also dance with it.

13. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Take My Bones Away

Yellow & Green is not the first album you'd think of when it comes to danceable music, and it's almost certainly not even the last album you would think of. In fact, a mention of playing an indie-rock/folk/metal album would get the average dancer's feet moving... in the opposite direction, and fast as possible.
However, nothing on the album will get the feet moving as much as "Take My Bones Away." It may not be the twerk anthem of the year or dale a tu cuerpo alegria como la Macarena, but It's an uptempo rocker of a song and the most propulsive of the album. The song locks into a groove as soon as the explosive opening notes kick in and the singer shouts: "You lead the way, I'll follow" (a courteous invitation to dance or move if there ever was one).
At the very least, the song is an excuse to just let out some energy and lose it, whether it's through the constant drum beat in common time, the fun shout-along "Take My Bones Away," or through the lyrics about stealing pies from window sills, the song will get a person moving one way or another.

14. Already Gone - Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear: Burn The Pages

On such an emotional album as "1000 Forms of Fear", it's hard to find a dance song, but Sia has done something for everyone here and this is "Burn The Pages". This is by far the most dancey song on the album. The song speaks about being able to let go of your past problems and ignore them. Isn't this what we do when we're on the dancefloor? I imagine playing this at an old school prom and everyone being with their nerd glasses on and their hands in the air. But, this could also fit nowadays as it has a fresh, modern air and I bet that all the teenagers could enjoy it. Sia's powerful voice completes the song perfectly and, of course, the lyrics are the stronger part here as in any other Sia song. She's against keeping every problem inside of you and makes you let it out. Personally, I think Sia has done a great job putting this song on her album as it lets you take a break of all those powerful ballads that are there.

The song itself is about those events of your life which you cant do anything about, you just have to get through them.
"The Hardest Part was Letting Go, Not Taking Part."
Sure you wish you could work it out but all you can really do is just let it go and dance your way through it.. and this song beautifully talks about THAT part, where you have to decide that and find a way to see the good things in your life and keep dancing till the pain passes.
"I tried to sing.. But I couldn't think of anything. And that was the hardest part."

16. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Your House

To most people, the term "dance music" conjures up images of a pulsating beat and a bouncing sea of club-goers. But not for everyone - especially not me. As a trained dancer and choreographer, "dance music" means more. To me, dance, especially contemporary (my favourite style), is art in motion. It's creating physical poetry with your body by interpreting the thoughts, ideas, and emotions of a piece of music. "Jagged Little Pill" is a treasure trove of emotionally-charged songs that inspire me to choreograph. The track that speaks to me the most is undoubtedly "Your House". When I look for a song to choreograph to, I seek one out that is ripe with raw emotion. These haunting lyrics tell of possessive, no, outright obsessive love. It's quite intense and would be interesting to interpret physically. Being acapella makes it interesting for contemporary dance - the sparseness/stillness of the track delivering moments of pause amongst the flurry of movements - a neat juxtaposition. Taking a look at "Your House Dance" on Youtube, I see I'm not the only trained dancer who finds this track inspiring. While this track may not inspire dance in the traditional sense, it inspires contemporary movement, artistry, and creation.
