15. Mariah Carey “Touch My Body"
Album: E=MC²
Genre: Pop, R&B
Producer: Tricky Stewart, Mariah Carey, The-Dream
US Billboard Hot 100: #1
After the worldwide success of
The Emancipation Mimi, Mariah released this as the first single from her next album
E=MC², scoring once again another number one, making her the artist with most number one singles ever beating the legendary Elvis Presley’s record.
Touch My Body is simple, elegant, sexy, and current, it’s something that other artists from her time are failing to deliver. The lyrics are extremely sexy and silly at the same time;
“If there's a camera up in here, then I'd best not catch this flick On YouTube” is one of the most memorable lines of the year. The gentle finger snapping beat and the catchy chorus are irresistible and definitely makes the song a true classic. The video is possibly one of the funniest of the year and Mariah looks sexy for her age as the fantasy of Jack McBrayer from 30 Rock. Mariah once again released a work of art in sound form that it’s easily one of the best tracks of the year.
14. Boys Like Girls “Thunder”
Album: Boys Like Girls
Genre: Pop/Rock
Producer: Paul DiGiovanni
US Billboard Hot 100: #76
I have never been a fan of them,
The Great Escape was alright,
Hero/Heroine wasn’t memorable, but this song is the best they have released by far, if they continue releasing songs like this in the future, then I‘ll be there listening.
Thunder is a power-ballad that talks about the memories you make during the summer, specifically a summer love. The music video perfectly describes the song and it also has shots of the band performing during a rainy day.
“Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors, I don't wanna ever love another, You'll always be my thunder” they sing during the chorus and as you can tell by those lines the song is very romantic and you can relate to it if you have ever been in love or had a high school crush. Without a doubt, one of my favorites this year and I’m hoping to hear more songs like this in the future from them.
