If anyone out there has heard previews of Hard 2 Love, Hell Yeah Baby and Reflections (from the scrapped album) give me your opinion. I kind of want that whole album to leak now so we can compare it to this album.
The Charli tracks, along with Start A War were shaping up to be an actually great pop album. BDL was nice too, Spark The Fire would have been a nice Japanese Bonustrack.
I guess things happen for a reason and now this album is personal, while the other seemed to be more "general" speaking.
You're My Favorite has some xylophones in it. Lots of snaps and trap elements.
But I've been there, done that, buyed it, tried it more than I can count
Shook it, stirred it, broke it, smoked it more than I can count
But out of everything, you're my favorite
Where Would I Be? has some reggae influences almost like something from No Doubt.
Truth is cute. So this is what the truth feels like?
And I'm feeling it
I'm feeling it
Take A Picture has some drums and xylophones.
Because I've been waiting such a long time
To get you in front of these eyes
Because I've been waiting such a long time
(whoa oh oh)
So send me a picture
Gwen is doing like this sing/talking on the verses on Red Flag mixed with some actual singing in the chorus/pre-chorus. You know how to spend it
You know how to blow it up
It's getting so expensive
You know how to screw it up
Asking For It is like: Do you wanna love me?
Are you sure you wanna love me?
You're asking for it, you're asking for it
And I'm just saying
Boy, you're asking for it, you're asking for it
and like right after it goes into this trap-like part.
Naughty's has some piano. The pre-chorus is sing-talking then it breaks to You've been naughty (ooh ooh ahh)
You've been naughty (ooh ooh ahh)
You've been naughty (ooh ooh ahh)
Me Without You is abt surviving without someone (her ex).
Pre-chorus No I don't need you a little bit
To myself, I finally admitted it
No I don't need you a little bit
Get rid of it
Chorus: Now I'm me without you
(and things are about to get real good)
Watch me breathe without you
(and things are about to get real good)
Ooh you faded so fast
I can hardly see you when I look back
Now I'm me without you
(and things are about to get real good)
The bridge reminds me of We Can't Stop lyrically: I can love whoever I want
I can see whatever i want
I can do whatever I want
(Hey)
with some violins with, again, trap elements.
Rare is cute. There's some guitar. I wish I knew what kind
Rocket Ship has this instrumental of like pitched/altered voices.
Sing-talking:
I'm taking this rocket ship to the moon
and my whole crew comin' with me
Look at me rising
I'm not even trying
like whoa, whoa, whoa
Getting Warmer has this cool like has this high-pitched beat in the chorus. Almost some reggae.
Obsessed is great. It starts off sounding like a storm.
Sing-talk: Living in a dream don't mean anything
Because my brain's unorganized
I'm using you temporarily
Because we keep locking eyes
(drums before each word) Pull over on the side of the road
I'm texting you on my telephone
Got my windows down
Guess I'm not going home
I'm obsessssssssed (dragged out) (na na na na na) with some 'ooh!' adlibs
Her solo style is heavily drowned in urban/rhythmic influences actually. TSE, Luxurious, Hollaback, Rich Girl, Now That You Got It, Yummy, Wind It Up, etc etc etc.
Besides the usual guys she works with (Tony, Nellee, Spike), she's close relations with Dr. Dre, Pharrell, of course Eve, Swizz, Sean Garrett. Even Rock Steady had urban/rhythmic influences all over it with the dancehall.

From the Ska/Dancehall roots of No Doubt to the choices of her solo producters & duets (Neptunes, Dr. Dre, Andre 3000 and Outkast, Dallas Austin, Akon, Swizz Beatz, Sean Garrett, Damian Marley),her career has always been surrounded by a urban breath.
jfyi
Let me Blow Your Mind, Rich Girl, Hollaback Girl, Luxurious, Breaking Up, Orange County Girl, Now That You Got It (+ the remix), Can I Have It Like That, Spark The Fire, Yummy
Yall all wrong.
Her roots as an solo artist is 80s synthpop music. She also has alot of urban influences and producers in her music as you all said, but its not her roots or the core of her music.
LAMB is an 80s influenced synthpop/dance album for the most part. Thats what her whole inspiration was for the album and what she wanted to do.
80s synthpop is also something No Doubt experimented on the Rock Steady album and Its My Life.

Exactly, I mean if these so called influences were what connected to the GP, you would think they would have embraced Push and Shove (album) and it's singles with open arms, aswell as Spark The Fire
"I wasnt at all looking to make an R&B or hip hop record" "I dont think this album has any hip hop" "The most R&B sounding song is Luxurious"
"I wanted to make an 80s inspired dance album"
If you know Gwen and her music, her roots are clearly not urban music. And that doesnt mean she hasnt made urban music as solo artist, she has, but its not her roots or her main inspiration as an artist.
However, I could be wrong or I could be right..
No doubt's music is reggae/ska which falls under the umbrella of hip hop. Also under the umbrella would be urban, rap, funk. Blah blah blah.
Her roots may not be urban per say, but it subconsciously could be a long lost cousin towards that direction. If that makes any sense

I love that interview so much. That era was so magical
