It's the emotion that grabs you. Even with the lyrical changes, you know what the song means and it gets to you. Her vocals aren't even messy enough to distract - they fit well, in fact. It reminds me of a sad Springsteen song for some reason, but again, the emotion is grabbing because of the meaning.
There's nothing that this woman could do to lose me as a fan at this point, honestly.
