No really. My Dad and I have had some good laughs over his whoopings when he was younger. I've never been punished like that before. But that's because I'm good. My brother's been spanked. My father, mother, grandparents. We're not the only family either. LOT's of kids get spanked and as long as you don't go too far and as long as you don't cross the line into brutality/torture, a good spanking is fine. It's not crazy or disgusting at all.

I'm not defending the parents that beat their kids to death however. There is a limit. There are boundaries.

I don't agree, but I'm aware that I'm not patient enough to raise a kid, so I decide not to have one until I'm mature enough to be a father. I think I'll remain thinking the same for a long, long time, haha.

I wish people would think like that before having kids like rabbits. What is more frustrating is in the case of people who actually have received good education as children/teenagers.

Yeah...the limit should be at any physical violence.

All the men on both my parents' sides (including my dad) were abused by their dads under the guise of "discipline." I don't see how it's funny or acceptable at all.

There is a difference between punishment and abuse. They are not the same thing.

I beg to differ. I don't know what happened to your father, so I can't speak on it. But patting a kid on it's butt for behaving VERY badly is not the same as beating the kid bloody. It's just not.

I'm sorry about whatever your father or grandfather have experienced. No one parent should abuse their kids. But in a lot of people's opinions, spanking/whooping can be effective. A time out and a toy or an activity taken away for a while isn't enough for some kids. It should definitely be a last straw punishment. But, for some kids, that's what it takes for them to behave and respect whoever is in charge. I have seen one particularly bad child who cursed, threw things around and disrespected his mother. After a time-out, he continued. After a scolding, he continued. After a spanking he complied.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as it is done at the right time and the right way. That's just how I was raised to see things.
