idk Dark Horse kinda seems like the kind of song that would always benefit from a later release. Like I feel like it would have taken too long to grow on the GP if it was released as the lead and might have been blocked by Blurred Lines, Wrecking Ball and Royals.
In a way I think it being a promo single helped it get the necessary exposure and build and build to SMASH when it was finally released in December.
i feel like katy wasn't seen as a nickelodeon songwriter until prism started, i mean the td lyrics weren't the best or whatever but it didn't sound so nursery rhymey compared to roar and etc.
