Though it technically came out in 2012, I Love It was my favorite song of 2013. The song was just so insanely catchy that you couldn't get it out of your mind, while also having a spectacular beat that makes you want to jump up and dance. The whole track also exudes a huge "F YOU", rebellious message that made it even more lovable. Though it's very generic and the song basically repeats itself twice, those are actually two positives as it makes the single a lot more fun by keeping the lyrics fresh in your mind. Speaking of fresh, even though it's nearing its 2nd anniversary, the song could be released today and actually sound like it was. I Love It has a duration of 2 minutes and 37 seconds, significantly less than most hits, which makes it easy to put it on repeat and get lost in it all - this is exactly what I did, as it was my most played song of the year with around 107 listens. Featured artist Charli XCX joins Jawo and Hjelt (Icona Pop) in the infectious chorus as they all SCREAM the lyrics, inviting listeners to do the same. The track is also not as heavy as most club anthems, so you can still rock out to it wherever you go. Overall, Icona Pop's I Love It is an incredible, addicting, party-ready bop that you're sure to remember for a long, long time - and it's also a great introduction to their discography.

Sadly, I don't remember the first time I heard this song, but I know it immediately clicked with me and from that moment on, my love for it only kept growing. When I saw JT perform it on Wetten Dass (it's seriously worth watching, he's having so much fun and the crowd is really into it and he even goes to shake people's hands and take a selfie with fans ), I nearly had a mental breakdown, I was basically in front of the TV, crying and screaming because I was so into the song and loving this soulful, touching performance. Whenever I heard that song, all I could think about was how amazing it must be to feel that way about someone else. I was so fascinated by that idea.
I initially connected with this song because I loved how emotional and romantic it was, and it gave me hope that I could fall in love like this some day. And then I did fall in love at the end of 2013, and it was like the song coming to life.
I'm looking right at the other half of me - We were so similar to each other in a lot of things yet very different in others, I felt like he completed me. The vacancy that sat in my heart is a space that now you hold - I had never in my life really loved someone, my heart had been empty and then I started to develop this immense love for this guy. You were right here all along - We had been friends for five years before we started dating. If I could, I would look at us all the time - I thought we looked amazing together.
So this song became my favourite song of 2013 because I could relate to it so much - not just because of the lyrics, but also because JT delivers it with such an intensity that I can't help being incredibly touched every time I hear it and just smiling, because it is such a beautiful description of love.

Crying For No Reason - Katy B
I chose this song because of the personal connection I have to it. The lyrics are about suppressing your feelings and hiding away all your problems because you aren't tough enough to deal with them. This has always been one of my struggles in life, I never face my problems head on and I can never express my feelings properly. Just like in the song, it usually comes back to hit me full force (). The British influences, strong vocals and electro drums suit my musical taste very well. I find the song has a lot of beauty in it's juxtaposition of sadness and outer appearance of strength, crying for no reason on the outside but fighting a battle on the inside.
Ever since I heard Whenever Wherever as a kid I always liked Shakira so I was kinda hyped for her return after 4 years of musical silence. The messy collabo with Rih let me down but I still hoped she'd serve a stronger material. Which has happened when Empire, the downtempo rock-ish ballad, was released. The song let stands out her unique vocals, especially in the hook, "Like the empires of the world unite, we are alive // And the stars make love to the universe // You're my wildfire every single night, we are alive," which is the best part of the song for me (mainly because of the way she sings "wildfire," always gives me chills). Overall the lyrics are very loving and fond and that gives the song such a tender feeling, kinda disturbed and roughened by the electric guitars, and I guess that's precisely why I like it so much and choose it for this challenge.

"Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High" Arctic Monkeys AM
Where to start?
In a business saturated with artists that have different styles that cater to different genres and varied listeners, it is hard for some to stand-out although in some, discovering a musician can come from serendipitous circumstances... And for me, it was the Arctic Monkeys.
Arguably I have an eclectic taste in music, alternative is one of those and yet I haven't given Arctic Monkeys a thorough listen.
Did I know them? YES
Did I know they were successful? YES
Did I know they were critically acclaimed? YES
Did other music lovers recommended Arctic Monkeys? YES, VERY HIGHLY...
Then why haven't I started listening to them knowing the accolades and recognition that they got? It's because I just didn't give them the chance and write them of as "overhyped" band... And that all changed with one song: "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?"
In some weird circumstances I stumbled upon "Do I Wanna Know?", the lead single from their 5th Album... I enjoyed it but not to the point that captured my attention to the band. And then serendipity came, I saw on the YouTube's suggested video a humorous title from the band called "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" and decided to watch it...
Then I saw the screen cap...
Who is this quiff - sporting smug bastard that exudes coolness, and bad-assery?
I clicked the video, heard "Do I Wanna Know?"... Then I heard the song...
A blast of pulsating beats, smooth vocals, commanding presence, lyrical cleverness and psychedelic atmosphere invaded my ears and every one of these elements are layered into a brilliant song that I deemed spectacular and enthralling... And *poof* my favorite song of 2014...
Favorite Line: I haven't found what I was hoping to find
You said, "You gotta be up in the morning, gonna have an early night.
And you're starting to bore me, baby.
I find these lyrics very, very relatable since I'm in this relationship and I'm always giving the cold shoulder since I'm not a touchy-feely guy and I only call her when I'm on the mood to do so... I can see her thoughts about me especially on these particular line and on the song as a whole.
Anyway long story short... This song (WYOCMWYH) is one of those enlightening and spectacular song that welcomes you to a discography of a brilliant band... Take a look at how Arctic Monkeys obliterated my listening habit: Last.fm
Now it's three in the morning in here when I was making this entry .
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

We Remain is like one of the best things ever. Firstly, let's talk about the lyrics. Xtina says that whatever happens, no matter what they are or not, they will remain. So, I really like this theme of going through all the challenges that life gives you and remaining next to the person you feel that you are the most close to. I like the way the sound becomes more powerful at the end too. It really fits the movie. Also, Christina's vocals are really slaying here. You can see that it's one of the few songs where she is not "oversinging" and she shows that she can hit those low notes too.
After wasting about 30 minutes scrolling down my songs, I've finally picked my favorite song of '13 ('14 has been quite boring so far musically ). 2013 brought us many bops, but out of all them, the best one would have to be...
Lady Gaga - Do What U Want (feat. R Kelly)
Trying to pick my favorite song of 2013 was a bit complicated at first, but after scrolling down my iChunes library I knew immediately that it had to be this song. I loved it instantly. I received so much life from the first time I heard it, I felt like Jesus rising from his grave. Call me crazy, but in my honest opinion, this song is a perfect 10. Period. Why, you ask?
That heavy, pulsating beat in the beginning + R. Kelly singing "Eh, eh, eh..." on top of it
Hearing Gaga's amazing voice top of tha amazing beat in the first verse with a slight angry tone
That pre-chorus, where Gaga served VOCALS + that hook (Do what u want, what u want with mah booodeh / Do what u want, what u want with mah boooodEHHHH) that got drilled into my head for MONTHS
R. Kelly and Gaga's voice complements each other, imo. The way their voices sound w/ each other
The production is amazing. It's fairly simple but very effective
The bridge. She sounds a biT vulnerable here as opposed to the first verse, but it only makes the song much more of an emotional roller coaster
The lyrics aren't clever or amazing, but you can tell that they're still genuine. You can definitely tell that it's something that she would write, and that it was straight from ha heart. Not that lyrics mean much to me anyway, but I'd say that really she hit it out of the park with this one
So yeah, y'all can kii @ me all you want for picking a Gaga song as my fave 2013 song, but at least I'm being real I don't think I've been slayed by a song that hard in 2013 when I first heard it, so it just had to be this one.

My favorite song of the 2013 year, would be without a doubt, Ariana Grande's "Baby I". The song is literally an amazing example of perfected vocals, an amazing melody, tongue-twisting lyrics. The song is an anthem, the song was 2013, the song shows perfectly who the female vocalist, Ariana Grande is, and I'm about to show you why. Literally, let's take a walk through from the beginning to the perfect ending of the song. Whatever the hell is going on, making that noise at the beginning, is a perfect hook -- did it not grab you in? She starts smoothly, like a little Dark Horse showing a soft voice with some cute teeny bop lyrics. "Baby; I got love for thee. So deep inside of me, I don't know where to start (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)." She then finishes up the rest of the 1st verse, than she kicks up a little. The beat comes in some more, and she continues "When I try to explain it I be sounding insane. The words don't ever come out right I get all tongue-tied and twisted I can't explain what I'm feeling" Then the chorus kicks in, it's just amazing and immediately gets stuck within your brain. "Oh baby, oh baby, oh baby, Baby I-I-I-I-I-. All I'm tryna say is you're my everything baby. But everytime I try to say it, words can only complicate it." This is a perfect chorus for the perfect love song, by the way. It already within barely what, a minute? See her perfect them low notes, that breathy singing, the upper notes, a damn climax, and a chorus. This song took you everywhere; but in a good way -- like you're on a roller coaster at Six Flags or sumthin'. Then her ass pulls it out the deck, and does it to us AGAIN before we can recover. Starts all soft, "Baby I'm so down for you, no matter what you do (real talk) I'll be around". Then it picks up, "When I try to explain it, the words don't ever come out right" and you can feel her damn hurricane of a vocals are about to snatch your life AGAIN. The chorus comes in, "and I say, Baby, baby, baby. Baby I-I-I-I-" along with the rest. "All I'm tryna say is your my everything baby" and her voice has you got CAUGHT Up in some feelings. Then she slows it down, having you think it's for real this time "Straight up, you got me, all in, how could I not be" and she finishes then takes our asses right through the sand back into that storm. By now, the chorus is back in, your weave is back out your head, and you just feelin' all kinds of SLAY and before you know it ends with her laughing devilish looking back at your weave on the ground. You don't know what just happened; but you wanna play it again -- as I did, 400 times. Not to mention, overall critic wise this as we know, sounds similar to something Queen Mariah would do. Mariah's been a biT messy lately; so who's not here for a good, young, throwback, with some power vocals? The song is also basically a teen anthem feel, and it's the song you can hear every hoe blasting in their car during the Summer. It's perfect, the feel, the grab, the weave snatching, and Ariana herself is perfect. I mean...why not!?
