I disagree and I am a fan of both. It's not all about "technicality" and high notes. Sometimes a subtle heartfelt vocal from a so-so vocalist may be more appealing to the average than a powerhouse vocal performance. That's Whitney, Mariah, Celine and the like are not always winning these awards.

To Beyonce's defense...Satellites is an equally good subtle vocal performance when compared to some of her best vocal powerhouse performances...

point is, Christina's vocal quality in her high range when she's belting is a substantial decrease from her tone when she's not.

Um, I'm not saying anything bad about Beyonce, nor am I saying anything bad about powerhouse vocal performances. I'm talking about a good or great performance doesn't have to be one-sided. Good vocals come in several different forms. Subtlety and belting are just two forms of that.

^ "Single Ladies" wasn't so powerhouse, but it won a vocal category.

Also, do not think vocal performance is only about the vocals because it is not. That is just a way to distinguish between vocal and instrumental. Alicia won R&B Female Vocal for "No One." Nuff said.

It really was the best R&B Vocal performance nominated last year. Who else should have won? Drippy ass Canadian Keyshia wannabe? Two other songs NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF?!?!?

Girl bye! I predicted "No One" for the win, but if we were talking strictly vocals, "No One" was not the best vocal performance in that category. The lineup was Chrisette Michele, Fantasia, Mary J. Blige, and Jill Scott. "No One" was a catchy song that I loved, but it sounded like she was croaking. *no flamebait*

But if we're talking about 2006-2007:

1) Fantasia (BY A MILE. It still sends chills up my spine, how invested she is.)


2) Mary
3) Jill


4) Alicia (but really admire what she tried to do)

5) the other one.

Oh, you are talking about that "Superwoman" win. IDK. It was a good vocal performance, but I'm surprised they didn't go with Jennifer that year. The fact that the Grammy voters gave Alicia an award for a cheesy ironic run of the mill ballad after they snubbed her for other awards was enough to make me say that she was a true Grammy favorite. Watch she wins a bunch of Grammys this year.
