Applause had the best set up. I wish the verses were good. The chorus is too good for the rest of the song. Ugh, it is really frustrating! Perfect instrumental * perfect chorus....but the actual lyrical content sounds like a Gaga parody.
The only perfectly executed song on ARTPOP to me is Gypsy. The lyrics are as good as the melody, and it all fits together. Every other song on ARTPOP sounds like a missed opportunity

I've gotta give Dope it's credit though. The people I know who have listened to it really like it. But they really like the YouTube awards performance of it.. which makes sense. It's by far her most emotional and one of her most simple. People who are involved in any kind of art see that kind of emotion and are just kind of stunned and impressed. It's sorta powerful. People let the vocals slide because it's something that pours straight out of her heart - there's no pretension, which people have sorta connected to Gaga.
Of course, it was also shot in a really good way and captures the pain on Gags face really well.
