Mary's Song was Her first narrative song that ends in marriage. In this song, the two people grow up as friends.
Love Story also ends in marriage, but introduces the theme "this love is difficult" because people don't support the relationship.
Mine is the real-world version of the fantasy Love Story. It still ends with marriage, but the "difficulty" comes from trying to make the relationship work in the face of real world obstacles (bills, etc) and Her personal history (careless man's careful daughter).
Starlight is the fourth incarnation, and it reverts to the narrative style of Mary's Song... Except it's pop to Mary's country. The song still alludes to the difficulties of a relationship, and still implies marriage (with the 11 kids bits).
