Yes. It's called idol industry. The companies (like Interscope, Capitol) have training centers where very young trainees have lessons of singing, dancing, languages, and even how to behave in variety shows and interviews. Then, these entertainment companies form groups, give them songs, choreography (which they practice for months) and debut them in the market. It's important to notice that, unlike western labels, these k-pop companies have full control over everything, from the music to the concept of every album to the concerts.
The 2 top k-pop companies and a few of their acts:
SM: Girls' Generation (a.k.a. SNSD, top girl group), TVXQ, f(x), EXO, SHINee, Red Velvet
YG: BIGBANG (top boy group), 2NE1, WINNER, Lee Hi, Akdong Musician
ooh ok, yeah i really like that. Like once they debut them alot of them are so good and its great because you get some quality in your entertainment. Although i've also noticed like you said that they have full control of what their artists do and stuff and i think they should have more creative freedom (unless they are not that good in that part), in that sense i feel its a bit extreme but the side of it were they prepare them to be at a certain standard is great.

Some do. YG's business model involves marketing their idols as artist, so they instruct them to develop songwriting skills so they can work on their own songs.
It all started with BIGBANG, since their debut, the lider of the group - G-Dragon - has written and co-produced almost all of their songs, including their breakthrough hit "Lies" which is one of biggest songs in k-pop to this day. After the saturation of the idol industry in the recent years, the public begun to want more artists instead of idols, so other companies are also giving chances to their idols to write stuff and release as solo material.
YG Ent. is particularly investing in finding idols who can write and produce. 2NE1's CL wrote 3 songs for the group's last album "CRUSH", WINNER have also written and co-produced almost every track on their album, Akdong Musician (AKMU) is a duo that pretty much does all their music by themselves, and YG is debuting another boy group soon called iKon who will also take part on their music (2 of their members actually wrote Winner's Empty).

yeah ive noticed the YG label does give more creative freedom, i didnt know that started with BigBang though. I think its good that artists can slowly start to have some creative input in their music as long as they have potential and talent if they are not good in that area then nothing wrong with sticking to your area. I do know about Winner and 2 ikon members writing their own music and think thats amazing i even watched WIN lol
Somebody really tried me today. Remember that Dazzlin' Red collab with Hyosung (Secret), Hyuna, Nicole (KARA), Hyolyn (SISTAR), and Nana (After School)… I mentioned on the actual video how all the artist aside from Nana have some sort of solo activity in music and someone commented that the reason why was because she couldn't sing.
I'm sorry, since when is singing the cornerstone for solo music!?

Nana's solo smash hit Eyeline is better than any of those other girls' entire discographies.
Gfriend...the girls who killed their careers by opening their mouths....
We feel honored to be compared with SNSD
1. [+6,391, -252] Why is it that every girl group has to mention SNSD?? Just because they mention them and use their name for media play doesn't mean they can even be comparable.
2. [+5,926, -220] Incomparable......
3. [+5,273, -308] SNSD are legends and they're just rookies, the comparison shouldn't even be happening
4. [+852, -29] Sorry to say but I think it's obvious that their agency purposely ripped off SNSD's 'ITNW'. The song's overall feel, outfits, choreography are similar..; I think that's what makes me not take an interest in them ㅠ
5. [+710, -27] Of all the names, their leader had to be named Sowon ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
6. [+698, -24] It's not comparing.... it's plagiarism!!!!!
7. [+644, -26] They read those comments as comparisons... they were criticisms for plagiarizing
8. [+545, -30] ㅋㅋㅋㅋ They'll never be able to overtake SNSD
9. [+493, -26] Don't bother mentioning SNSD ㅡㅡ Your song is similar to 'ITNW'.. and none of your members are especially pretty. They all have faces too big or too long.
10. [+419, -13] Their concept's lame, their name's just as lame.
