Why does Gaga have such few number ones? Songs like Telephone, Alejandro, Paparazzi should have definitely made it (TEOG too but we all know that couldn't have happened from that messy era). Was it just poor luck on her and her teams part?
What LadyGagaStan93 said, but also her team has always been pretty piss poor when it comes to planning a single release the way, say, Katy Perry's team plans single releases. Gaga's team doesn't seem to take into account the long term point of view and/or the idea of a song slowly gaining. All of her songs normally peak in sales before radio, radio before sales, but never peak all at the same time, which is how you normally get a #1 single.
It's also kind of funny when people bring up Gaga's lack of #1 singles in an attempt to drag her, 'cause, like, she's never been a chart killer or someone who can easily rack up #1 singles.

If anything, Gaga is a testament to why (US) #1's are not crucial. She has mammoth pop songs under her belt that people know and love more than they do #1 hits. Besides, in this day in age, there are so many ways for songs to gain exposure that dominating radio isn't necessary.
Although, of course, it would be nice and certainly help counteract the negativity. When she has a #1, she'll suddenly be slaying again.

Ish. People who are active online aren't really who I'd consider "the GP". Checking Buzzfeed is probably as far as the average person goes - not trolling comment sections or posting on forums. Those are people of heightened interest in pop culture (or whatever) and no longer reflect the average persons opinion.

I agree. It feels more neutralised. BTW to ARTPOP was so hostile. Hopefully people/media have had their fill of her "failing" now so they will find it more entertaining to watch her make a comeback.
C2C should do a lot for her cause. I'm hoping it'll act as a refresh button. Reminding people of her talent, why they love her, perhaps even making them hungry for crazy pop Gaga again.

Seriously a lot of people don't even know she was back with ARTPOP. I spoke to various people the last months and they heard Applause but didn't thought an album was already released etc. maybe that is for the best
Overshadowed by songs during their release period. In Paparazzi's case it peaked in one part of it's chart life too fast (If I'm not mistaken it peaked in radio too soon before sales caught up or it could be the other way around) But she was still pretty big. A lot of those songs deserve to be number 1 but meh, she has some.

Thanks. I was just trying to make sense of it all because I was comparing peaks by other artists and it just seemed so odd to me (especially with Katy - I guess she truly just has the best team in the world). The fact that a song like Last Friday Night and POM can get to number one but the combined efforts of Beyonce and Lady Gaga can't?
Also. Had a loooong talk with a friend of mine. She's a huge Christina fan though not quite a stan - though Bionic is her favorite album. I talked to her about how Perez went out of his way to make that campaign and era absolute hell for her and also mentioned how he did the same thing with Gags. She thought the whole thing was really petty and sad. She told me how amazing it is that they've both persevered through such hardships and we talked about pop culture for a long time. Then I introduced her to Your Body (this is how I know she isn't a stan because she didn't know Lotus existed). A great night.
I'm listening to out of control and I wish she would have taken this for herself. She sounds so cool on it. Like. I can just imagine hearing on the radio and everyone loving it.

Her team got it so right during the first half of Teenage Dream that all they've had to do since is keep the machine well oiled. Katy is an example of a popstar who gets hits off the back of her hits, regardless of how good they are. They're cruising now, which is probably why they got complacent and her Prism flops happened.
Gaga had that pop machine running smoothly until she took responsibility of oiling it, didn't, then it jarred.
I don't believe Alejandro ruined her. It was the start of a mess, but clearly she rebounded. The hype for BTW alone...imagine if she had released a good song like TEOG as the lead. What ruined her was attaching meaningless imagery to meaningful songs that no one could connect point A to point B. As a result people stopped trying to understand her and just started to see her as obnoxious. Judas, being a gimmick, only made it worse.
Alejandro video was lame but people still cared about her afterwards. BTW era killed her career, which is a shame because the album is monumental.
I don't agree with this to be honest. BTW was a good lead single, the message and its impact. And it was an event. Imagine if she sang TEOG chorus instead of BTW chorus at the VMAs? She will just lost the momentum right away. TEOG might do good in the charts, but that's just it (even it can be a timeless hit) BTW still a superior song that will define Gaga's career and to be honest even some ATRL deny it, BTW is actually one of Gaga's signature hits (Along with JD, PF, Paparazzi, BR, Telephone, Alejandro and even LoveGame, TEOG and Applause)
Someone asked about the app backstage last night and she said she doesn't know if she's gonna upload new music anymore
Oh she doesn't know?
