After a long absence (some may say it's been too long!), Paloma Faith is back with the title track from her first album. I know a lot of us have been saying in this rate that Paloma is a Duffy-wannabe, but I think this track takes it to a new level of Duffyness. There are some parts in this song where they have the exact same voice. It's sorta creepy The track only peaked at #64 after her first two singles went Top 20, so the public was NOT here for it!
Although Laura started the day with no songs out, this her third song out today. "Goodbye England" was the first single from her second album I Speak Because I Can and it peaked at #133 in the UK. Obviously the goal of her folk music isn't to blow up the charts, but I really liked this one after a few listens. It starts out really slow, but in the last minute it really picks up, before going soft again. I would have preferred for it to NOT go soft again. Don't be afraid of a fast tempo, Laura!
I wrote my name in your book,
only God knows why,
and I bet you that he cracked a smile.
And I'm clearing all the crap out of my room,
trying desperately to figure out what it is that makes me blue,
and I wrote in a big letter to you,
and it's 22 pages front and back but it's too good to be used.
And I tried to be a girl who likes to be used,
I'm too good for that, there's a mind under this hat.
And I called them all and told them I've got to move
My second favorite V V song is out! A bit too early for this, I think! It's a bit manic, isn't it? That's what I love about it. This song is similar to "Crying Blood" with the '50s style, but "Leave!" executes the concept better. The bridge is very Amy Winehouse to me, which is a MAJOR PLUS. If you imitate Amy, you get praise. If you imitate Duffy, you get ridiculed. Learn from this Paloma! 'Cause you're stupid and you know you gotta do it LEAVE!
