many people think shakira's music suppost to sound Arabian when her only Arabian kind of song is "Ojos Asi"..... many peope think her music suppost to sound Latin when her most Latin song is "La Tortura" many people think she suppost to be a rocker..... but preaty much is pop.....they have named her The Latin Madonna , the Latin Britney , the Latin Alanis , the Latin Fairouz and it has never worked yes she bellydances but she never picked it up naturally , she learned it ! shes just a creator of Art from her surroundings and the things she loves to do ..... thats whats makes her popular.. and not just a copy of another thing ............... her first two albums (Magia & peligro) flop because she had producers do her songs.....thats why she writes her own songs... shes afraid if she lets some producer do her songs she will flop.....and as long as she keeps fighting to the top she will get somewhere big....she has broken cultures and barriers with her songs... if she keeps doing her thing she will be a good example of global music....

I know all that Mig
- and it just proves that she is mixed race
. What I'm saying is that whether she picked up her cultural interests naturally or not doesnt change the fact that she is half Arab. It's really not a debatable thing, its her racial ancestry, genetic fact, unless her father is not her biological father. It is a very basic fact that can't be changed.
The confusing thing is that you and Joster keep trying to say 'but' and then give cultural reasons to try and downplay her Arab side. That is not a justifable argument, culture and ethnicity are two different things, they can go together but they dont have to and culture certainly wont make her any less mixed raced biologically.
Brian was actually saying that she doesn't do enough Middle Eastern influenced things but then you and Joster said she did - but then when I said she is mixed raced, period, no big deal it seems you are now trying to say sure she's Lebanes but not really because of what she does, her cultural interests etc.
Like I said, I'm not talking about her music or culture. I'm just stating a simple fact, the woman is South American and Middle Eastern and the name 'Shakira' shows her Middle Eastern decent. Immigration does not take away your ethnicity. It sounds as if you and Joster are trying to make her more Columbian which I'm not disputing when it comes to culture and nationality, I've said already that she only really started showing Asian influences as far as I know when she made Laundry Service. Before that I only heard rockier/alternative things from her. But unless one of her parents are mixed raced, e.g. her mother might be, she's not more Columbian then Middle Eastern in her physical make up i.e. her ethnicity.
Most dancers or a specific genre of dance don't pick it up naturally, I think I'm the only person I've ever met who started dancing like that as a child without any influence and before I was into Indian culture, I don't even see how that's an argument for anything I'm talking about here - when I was talking about bellydance I was explaining to Brian where it came from and that it can be fast as well as slow.
I don't see why you're explaining her albums, music and popularity to me either.
