I guess this song is too emotional, sentimental, indulgent and perfect for the masses. Their loss

Exactly! Just because it makes you cry doesn't mean you should rate it a 5! It's okay, honey. Let it out. Let. It. Out.

Make You Feel My Love is a bore. I gave it a 6 and I thought I was being generous.

I just don't like Adele covers for some reason. TMYFML & Lovesong are my two least favorite songs from her. I guess it just doesn't feel genuine to me when she isn't singing her own words.

What kind of mess?? No Light, No Light and Warwick Avenue are solid 10s. Solid. 10s.
If Amy Overrated-house wins this, then just....chile...

Amy Winehouse - Just Friends
Average Rate: 7.844
Highest Score: 10 (5x)
Lowest Score: 6 (2x)
Just Friends, the sixth and finally single off of Back to Black, wasn't technically released everywhere - or anywhere. In 2008, a video popped up on her record company's YouTube channel, and some radio stations started playing it. So, for a song that truly had no promotion - it did quite well in this rate.

It's the perfect response to that outrageous claim! Truthfully, my ideal tpp 20 would be 18/20 Lily and Amy.
And Just Friends would be top ten. What a beauty of a song.

Tears Dry On Their Own is a jaaaaaaam. But Love Is a Losing Game, Back To Black and most of the first album are pretty average. I never understood why she's hyped so much. Especially when, in this context, she's compared to the likes of Lungs and It's Not Me, It's You!

Florence and the Machine - What the Water Gave Me
Average Rate: 7.844
Highest Score: 10 (7x)
Lowest Score: 3 (2x)
What the Water Gave Me surprised fans around the world when it premiered, seemingly out of nowhere, as the first single from Florence's heavily anticipated sophomore effort, Ceremonials. It was written by Florence and Eg White, and produced by Producer of the Year Paul Epworth. Upon release, it became the second song in Florence's catalog to chart on the US Hot 100.
The title left fans confused, so Florence went out of her way to explain the song's meaning:

It's a song for the water, because in music and art what I'm really interested in are the things that are overwhelming. The ocean seems to me to be nature's great overwhelmer. When I was writing this song I was thinking a lot about all those people who've lost their lives in vain attempts to save their loved ones from drowning. It's about water in all forms and all bodies. It's about a lot of things; Virginia Woolf creeps into it, and of course Frida Kahlo, whose painfully beautiful painting gave me the title... A lot of the time when I'm writing, things will just appear. I was writing the song and this book on symbolism was lying around, and it had the painting in it. It's nice to mix the ordinary with extraordinary.

Critically well-received, WtWGM did its job: it introduced fans to the heavier sound of the second album, while setting the path for the true lead single.

My least favorite Flo single. I remember being so worried for the album when this was released.

Nice to see that WTWGM got a proper rank, it got me so pumped for Ceremonials. I gave it an 8.

I love What the Water Gave Me
I'm okay to see it go, though. She has better singles.

Florence and the Machine - Heavy in Your Arms
Average Rate: 7.859
Highest Score: 10 (4x)
Lowest Score: 5 (2x)
Heavy in Your Arms, a song written by Florence and Paul Epworth, was originally intended just to be used in the film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Her record company, however, had other ideas, and made it the lead off single for the re-release of Lungs. It charted at #53.
Florence opened up about the song's meaning on her website:
Quote:
'Heavy In Your Arms' I suppose is about the weight of love, and how sometimes it can be a burden between two people. I felt this was a strong theme in the Twilight series – is someone being rescued or are they being condemned, and is the love you carry bringing you down? I recorded it with Paul one evening, using a lot of strange reversed vocal samples and big hip hop piano. It's basically inspired by 90's hip hop, and gospel choirs, like most of my songs.

Fun Fact: Kelly Clarkson performs this live!

I love Heavy In Your Arms too
I always knew which of her singles would go far, so as long as she cracks top 20, I'm fine.
