I get what she's saying but she's so delusional. Being passionate about music is great - I love K-pop, but being a "fangirl/boy" shouldn't be anyones life in the first place. That's a totally different thing to being passionate about music.

I do understand what she's saying about the lack of connect between International fans, but she needs to bear in mind that it's an industry not catered to the American market. As much as it's gotten massive worldwide, it's popularity and key factors in it's execution still come from it's audience in Korea - like any music market.

The age thing too is whatever, I have said a lot of times how I find it strange listening to artists younger than me, but it's not that big a deal.

I'm really only here for the music. I refuse to get invested in a group based on the looks of an individual or their personality. I know that makes me sound like a typical YG stan but I stan so many girl groups across so many companies.

I mean I'm still staning Rainbow because of some songs they released in 2011.

I don't ever ask myself that when there's 3 important reasons:

They make music I love. (Honestly this should be enough)
I love them all as people and admire qualities in them
Their music has gotten me through a lot of bad things in my life. When I was in and out of hospitals I got everything taken away from me momentarily and one of the few things I had left was music. It was one of my very few sources of happiness.

I'm only here for the music, so much that if a fave of mine releases something underwhelming (like 2NE1 with Falling in Love and Do You Love Me) I'll just ignore them until the good music comes back.

The only exception is YG's new girl group, which I've been stanning for years before they are even revealed basically because I really love the concept of a group like SNSD with YG's music. But if their music ends up sucking then I'll be the first one to jump boat.

EDIT: Actually I just realized that for me to really stan an artist, they need to be great performers. But if they aren't, I'll still enjoy their music, like T-ARA and Apink

I'm here for the music. Live performing like CL is a plus but I become indifferent towards a group if they have a bad year (e.g 4Minute 2013), but stan for them again when they release music I like.

I don't go out of my way to find out about the members, and looks aren't a big issue since I only stan girl groups

My general pattern when discovering groups I really like is music -> image -> personality. If I like the music enough, I'll start watching interviews and performances. It all stems from music but considering k-pop is literally designed to hook the audience with other things (MV, performances, fanservice etc) I'm not ashamed to admit that those things play a role in my enjoyment of said-groups.

As much as I want to say I'm here just for the music and performances, I know for a fact its not the only reason. Music pushes up an artists if I like their songs but personality definitely comes into play. If I can myself hanging out with them, the more likely I will enjoy their music. Looks aren't important as most of my faves get slammed for their looks per netizen's standards anways.

But I also stan for the business side of my fave groups because I think its really interesting of the marketing and t he process and the image making and seeing them succeed because I always wonder if it can later on be replicated. Like would BIGBANG been better off with a different sister group (as much as people say it was 2ne1 it's actually Wondergirls).
If SNSD was a group of all natural beauties how different would their success be etc.....just that keeps me occupied and entertained

It's one of their best singles regardless of what people say. They let the bad MV and mediocre choreography influence their opinion on the actual song too much.
