No.. well, kind of. I only listened to classical, choral, and film scores right before I became a stan for Amy Winehouse in 2012. The next year, I decided to branch out since my then-boyfriend was a huge pop culture fan and wanted me to try listening to a bunch of pop music.
Mainly news websites, high school homecomings, and I watched some of her music videos. I was quite pretentious and bitchy back then when it came to music.
My parents did listen to top 40 but I stopped right around the time BTW would have came out, that would have been when around when I got my own car and started driving places on my own. I remember the cover and the Egg being HUGE though.

Nope. Haha, I remember going to her Spotify in June 2013 and thinking "hey.. why not?" and listened to the top tracks. Just Dance, Poker Face, The Edge of Glory (thought this was by someone else tbh), Marry The Night, and BTW. I knew the name, definitely, but not the song at all.
MESS at me knowing Marry The Night before BTW (song) though.
I never heard Born This Way (song) until I bought BTW in July 2013.

Interesting I feel like very few young people focus more on classical than popular music.
For me, I had very little interest at all in pop music (or even music in general) when I was younger, as most of it at the time was RnB/Rap and I disliked rapper's attitudes and I disliked pop stars like Britney because I felt they were talentless (yay 4 pretentiousness). But I started paying a lot more attention to pop music once Gaga came out with Just Dance and I was fascinated by her

I remember that before Gaga appeared into the scene I was only interested in the local pop-rock bands of my country. Then in the summer of 2008 (or 9?) radio here started playing like crazy 'I kissed a Girl' and 'Hot and Cold' and I became a KatyKat () for a short period of time (don't judge me). While I was in that phase, one night at the disco (obviously for teenagers, not a real one lmao) the DJ played Just Dance and I think I'll never forget that moment because the connection I felt was instant. I was all kinds of slayed and the day after I searched on the internet for the song like crazy. It was a girl called Lady Gaga. I watched the music video and then it all started
in May of 2008, My friend and I got into trouble in school so we had to stay back after classes. Just me and him. When the teacher left for a few minutes he said to me "Have you ever heard of Lady Gaga?" I was like no and he said "Look up her up, she's fun. Shes weird though" I went home, looked up the video for Just Dance and I thought she was a total freak at first but then I couldn't stop replaying it. It was the first song I bought on iTunes ever. I was obsessed. Then Poker Face came out a few months later and I knew from that moment on that Gaga was my new fave I've loved ha ever since
I was sorta familiar with The Fame though. I had a friend that was a HUGE fan back when she could draw straights and he would not stop going gaga over her. Saying she was so sexy, so weird, so talented. He listened to The Fame like everyday in math class.

Hmmm are you guys still friends and is he still straight?

Yeah. I think he sort of moved on after Born This Way though. He was watching during The Swinefest festival and sent me some snapchats about it. But he didn't really jump ship to another pop girl or anything.. he just loved Gaga because she was electronica and dance pop, which hadn't really happened yet and was quite exciting at the time. He's still a fan.
