Bieber's really unique. He's pretty much the only male teen idol of the last 20 years. Even when Timberlake went solo, I think he was beyond the pure teen craze.

As Damien said, there are benefits to being a solo phenomenon. I'd reckon he's more famous than any of those others, even BSB, in the US and abroad.

No. I'm 29, and have been around long enough to witness the majority of what people ACTUALLY think about these artists, and not just what I've read on Twitter and fan forums. I don't need you to cut me any slack. You and most of the people on this forum literally ARE the slack.

I clearly said "teen craze". It doesn't matter if someone from the GP can't name each member or their songs. Bieber had more cultural impact outside of his target demographic but the craze surrounding him was a bit smaller and more short-lived.

I think Bieber's peak was far bigger. He was big enough to completely invade the public conscious. There's a reason everyone hated him before he started acting like a douchebag. Most people my age (still relatively young) seem to be almost entirely unfamiliar with 1D. Aside from that, his first studio album sold more than any 1D album and his other merchandising campaigns at the time were also more successful than One Direction's have been.

He was also certainly a far bigger force socially and digitally than they were at their respective peaks.

Maybe it defined her career at the time, but Rih has promptly exited that type of one-note treatment from the GP.
