Again: the ratings were incredibly low were because the majority of the performers don't bring in people (despite a minority of performers being draw like Taylor and B). It would've been much lower without them.

M!X, regarding your edit: there's a reason why the Prismatic Tour and Teenage Dream Tours don't match the success of her singles and albums. Sure, they still sell (because she does have star power), but she's not doing anything of the caliber 200m+ (unless it gets like a TON of dates).

Prismatic Tour is kinda smashing in Australia because Katy has been super successful in Australia this era.

P!nk for example is conisdered to be ~an amazing performer yet her average gross outside Australia is not really that impressive.

It's honestly more about star power/music/singer himself than it's about their live performances. Especially outside US because people don't even watch Grammys/VMAs and etc.

Y'all are so obsessed with a quick chart peak or ratings that you're completely unable to evaluate whether something was a success or not.

Look at the 20/20 Tour. People enjoy JT's performances on TV; therefore, they buy tickets to their tours. Live performances on TV are definitely important (which is what Lipton was trying to disprove).

Disgustin didn't need the VMA performance to draw interest to his era. He had immediate interest upon returning. His tore would have done fine regardless.

The previous VMAs matter as well. If people are disappointed then they're less likely to tune in again the year after. I don't remember who was there last year though other than Miley's joke of a performance.
