Charli XCX passed by the French television France 2's studios for an appearance on the late night show 'On n'est pas couché', presented by multiple hosts and where Charli was the main guest of the week. Her appearance was also the main topic on nearly ever French newspaper as she was promoting in France a lot this week, and on major TV shows. People were talking about her basically everywhere, so everyone was watching her TV appearances and was buying her singles and albums. 'Devour My Heart' hasn't left the #1 position in France since it was released 2 weeks ago.
Walking down to the stage wearing a Armani Privé dark purple gown with white Armani heels, Charli looked beautiful with her hair pushed over to one side. While being welcomed cheerfully by an over-excited audience, Charli sat down and smiled while thanking the crowd. "They are so cute!" she said after they stopped screaming. "I can't believe all of those are fans!" she added. She than started answering questions regarding everything about herself. At the end of the interview she also performed er new single 'Tokyo Lights' which peaked at #1 in France just like her previous single and her album.
As you can see by the screams, you're huge over here! so you write all your songs right?
Yeah, I occasionally write with other people too but it's really mostly me. I think song-writing is an important part of my life, actually it's huge. It's what made me big.
You've written songs for people like Iggy Azalea, Icona Pop, Taylor Swift and Zendaya. What are your thoughts on working with those artists?
I don't like writing with people who annoy me, I wouldn't sell someone who I don't really like any of my songs. But those artists are just amazing, each one of them has something special. I also can't wait to hear the studio version of Zendaya's 'Cuts Like Diamonds'. It was a song which I made a demo off and after hearing this snippet of her version... I'm amazed how good it is!
Charli XCX, that's actually a very... unusual name let's say, how did you come up with it?
Well people were already calling me 'Charlie' when I was younger since my name is Charlotte, but I really didn't like this 'e' at the end of 'Charlie'. I decided to keep 'Charli' and I was literally playing with letters putting them next to each other when I was bored when I wa slike 13 and 'XCX' formed up. It sounded really cool so I wanted to use it. I also like to say that 'XCX" actually means X-rated content *laughs*.
Your album 'Devour My heart' sounds like an evolution while keeping the same sound of True Romance, why?
Well I really wanted to keep the 'True Romance' feeling to it while making it, but I wanted to make it better, bigger!
Which one is your favorite?
That's a hard question *laughs* I absolutely don't know. I usually don't like judging my music like this although I can slightly prefer a song over another I like all songs on both albums!
After the small interview, Charli had an outfit change. She now was wearing a red corset with white leather pants and big black platform boots like the ones she used to wear. She started doing a few moves all by herself on the small stage while a more EDM-ish instrumental of 'Tokyo Lights' was playing. She sang the original version of the song tho, without doing any changes besides this intro. 'Tokyo Lights' can now be purchased digitally and physically.

Charli XCX Performs on Le Mag

Le Mag is a huge Reality TV recap show on French television it's also one of the most watched shows since it's on right before one of the biggest Reality TV shows in Europe, Les Anges de la Tele-realite. It's usually the most watched show in it's time slot. They also have some occasional celebrity appearances and yesterday's episode featured the new Electro-pop sensation Charli XCX. Her album 'Devour My Heart' smashed in france and her singles are easily sold so she made this appearance to boost some of the sales for her single 'Tokyo lights'.
For this appearance she kept her look simple and was wearing a cute Urban Outfitters light pink dress with a a pair of black heels and a black with pink studs hat. She also had some light make-up on which her look like an angel. After listening to the usual Reality TV recap, the hosts started Charli's interview and talked about her album, clearly holding the limited edition of 'Devour My Heart' on Vinyl. They also talked about the singles 'Alone in the Dark' and 'Tokyo Lights' and about how they smashed in france.
'Devour My Heart' is your second album, do you think it lives up to True Romance, your first album?
Yes, in a certain way You can't live up to it, since it's a different album you can't compare them since they are different when it comes to themes for example, but music wise yes it did.
Why did you choose to name the album 'Devour My Heart'?
Well it was when I wrote the track 'Devour My Heart' back in February, I recorded a lot of things in February 2014. Like 20 demos, but only 4 of them were kept on the album. And I had just written 'Devour My Heart' and felt like it really fitted the theme of the album as an overall, it's was kind of perfect in my opinion.
Your single 'Tokyo Lights' is your favorite song on this album as you said many times, why?
I don't really know actually, it just 'clicked' with me. It was also the second song I wrote which I wrote right after SuperLove and it really was when I started knowing what I really wanted with this album. Kind of symbolic.
Did you release an album when you were 14?
Yeah I think it actually leaked a while ago too! It's called '14' and has 14 songs on it. It wasn't technically released. It was just a project I worked on during my free time but it ended up being semi-terrible *laugh* it's kind of embarrassing looking back now.
After the interview, Charli got up and performed the brand new version of 'Tokyo Lights' which is featured in the Sony Commercials which also feature Charli herself. The performance ended with Charli dancing a choreography to a remix of this new version of 'Tokyo Lights'. 'Tokyo lights' and it's Sony Version can now be purchased on on ITunes worldwide or on other digital retailers such as amazing but is also available physically and is feature don Charli XCX's album 'Devour My Heart'.
