Nah, mid 60s. The critics were nicer to her w PRISM, but the album was actually bad that time around. She missed her mark. Hopefully, they don't go back to their old ways with her next release.
Actually, I think that "cool" variable controls for them being out of touch with "the culture", and being more likely to "get" music by white musicians and therefore rate them higher.
So it's an even, uneven playing field. Black exceptionalism cancels out white privilege. Everyone wins.

this aregument doesn't translate well because part of Taylor's image and appeal is she writes her own songs about herself in a detailed confessional style

Being that thematically alone, the album is something that she's done since her debut I think not.
Add to the fact there's nothing exceptional to the production and the only thing that saves the album being a few witty lines here and there, I definitely disagree.
