It's important to remember (and no one on ATRL does) that Lady Gaga disappeared after Marry The Night. Sure, she had a tour but that was selling on it's own. She got no media attention (likely purposefully aside from the debut of Princess Die) and basically left the music scene without anything to remind the GP, whereas other artists were keeping themselves relevant through endorsements and movies and singles. No matter how high Gaga was last, she literally had to reintroduce herself and start all over again. It was too big of a gamble to stay away from the media that long.
Applause still smashed and DWUW was a hit so it could have been way worse; she is lucky to have such a dedicated fanbase and have a sound that still generates publicity.
Watching TF era videos now, it's really hard to imagine this is the same girl who sings Born This Way and Applause. The shift between FameGa and everything that came after was so extreme.
Gaga's personality is the main turn-off now. Ever since November-January I've never felt the same about her.

She's been insufferable ever since the #4pplause drama on Twitter. I feel like if I didn't stan ARTPOP as hard as I do (literally on par with TFM) I would have jumped ship ages ago.
Homegirl needs to delete Twitter, cut her losses, work with relevant producers again and all will be right in the world.

No offense but she has no business dropping Fashion! when trash like Donatella () and MANiCURE are performed. I'd be fine with Telephone being dropped too. It's never worked live (aside from acoustically), likely because she's never performed with Beyoncé.

Amen fashion! But I think LM would be more advantageous than twitter. That mess in January was really kinda depressing and it really was not healthy with us helping her (some destroying her) while she was melting down.
^^I'm right there with you though. I maintain a theory that the "true" ARTPOP was shelved and ImposterPop was released in its place, which is probably why Gaga has seemed so uninterested and vacant for 2/3 of the era. Applause is probably the only track that survived from her original ideas.
How different the era would have been if she had titled the album Venus and not mentioned Koons or "artpop" at all. At worst we would have had a cute little commercial era. She truly is her own worst enemy.
