For some reason I like to hold it off.
Like, I always keep the starter until Lv 35, before it can evolve. Then again at Lv 50, into it's final form. Then with other Pokemon, it depends on what moves they learn. I'll generally keep them unevolved until ~40, but I might evolve some either sooner or later depending on what moves I need them to learn.
It's also fun watching the team grow, rather than having the final forms so early.

My parents are so tight though when it comes to my allowance. I think I'll get it on October just in time for X & Y release. Hopefully..
