We've seen the success of Clinton and Obama's Keynesian economic policies. History is on our side.
Take a look at the economies of different states. California vs. Kansas.
And you're kidding yourself if you think Kasich is 'moderate'. Just take a look at how socially conservative he is. His record in Ohio speaks for itself.
If the GOP wants to turn back to the centre and become more socially acceptable, consider Charlie Baker, Jon Huntsman, Larry Hogan.

Actually Bush Sr. fell on the political sword when he had to raise taxes...Bill Clinton reaped the political benefits of that.
California vs Kansas is an odd comparison...California vs Texas would be more fair...
Kasich is moderate enough to push the GOP more to the center...don't get me wrong, I like Jon Huntsman. Huntsman would of made an awesome president...but Kasich is palatable enough to actually get elected in 2020. Kasich seems pragmatic enough...he wouldn't reverse social laws that have been enacted, and wouldn't run as much on religious dogma like past GOP candidates have. Baby steps for the GOP, baby steps...

If you think the 8 years of incremental economic growth under Clinton is down to Bush, I had no words for you. And Bush raising taxes was not a GOP idea. Which goes down to the point that GOP economic policies fail. You highlighted it yourself. Success comes from RAISING taxes. No GOP candidate believes that.
I highlighted California and Kansas because they are 2 states going in completely opposite directions. One that is growing incredibly well (up 4.1% GSP last year), the other failing.
Kasich defunded Planned Parenthood and more. See: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...ident-campaign
Kasich also has not pathway to success in 2020. People seem to rate him highly because he stayed in the race the longest, but he should have departed much earlier. More viable candidates did.

And I guarantee that in 4 years, he won't be the republican nominee, Rubio will, if he wins his reelection race, at least. If he doesn't, then he won't be. If it's not him, it'll be someone like Nikki Haley or something. Scratch that, republicans are still too sexist to have a woman nominee anytime soon. I predict that the deplorable Scott Walker will run again, maybe it will be him.

The people of Ohio must love him for some reason, as he is very popular there...Kasich doesn't strike me as a zealot like Ted Cruz or Michelle Bachmann.
Kasich/Haley would make a fine GOP ticket in 2020.

IF and I stress the word if Hillary wins, I really hope with all my heart that the GOP sees the light and lets go of social issues as a rebranding move. It might make it harder for Dems in the future, but it just SCARY to me that one of the two major parties wants to roll back rights so much...
I still hope the Democrats win in 2020 even the GOP turned a page, but at least it won't be as horrifying as it is now.

If approval ratings are the key, you should be putting you support behind Republican governors like Sandoval, Baker or Hogan in either swingy-or-blue states.
Kasich is such a non-factor that the support for him is ridiculous. His popularity now is because he's the only viable #NeverTrump replacement. If the field was open, he'd be a nobody.

I think Hillary has to pick Bernie now.
She needs something to energise her campaign and get people to the polls and some basic white establishment guy isn't gonna cut it.
The numbers are too close to **** around with this, she needs to lock this up for the good of the U.S. and the world.

Fact is that Bush Sr. did it for the sake of the country over his political career...even you have to say that was commendable. Not many a politician would do that.
Of course they would be...Kansas and California have vastly different economies...Kansas mostly deals with agriculture.
From you Guardian article:
Quote:
He has strongly opposed same-sex marriage but said he accepted the supreme court’s decision last summer that made it legal across all states and said it was time for the country to accept that reality and “move on”.
And Kasich has acknowledged climate change – although he maintains he does not know if the actions of humankind are driving it, and he does not support action to curb emissions by regulating traditional energy producers.
|
Sounds pragmatic enough to me...what's the problem? As for Planned Parenthood, no woman should be able to terminate late a pregnancy just because they don't want the child. That's what radical liberals want, and I could never support that. PP has it's purpose...but needs to be regulated, and have political oversight.
People rate Kasich highly because he wouldn't support Trump, he stuck by his guns and so far continues to do so. He didn't go negative in the election, and wouldn't play Trump's games...the GOP will be looking for that type of candidate in 2020.

Just because he doesn't strike you as one doesn't mean he isn't one. He is, he just hides it better than most of them do. And yeah, they'd make a fine losing ticket.

But they never will, the evangelicals will always have a stranglehold on the Republican Party.

As much as I don't like a Hillary/Bernie ticket politically, It'd be pretty unstoppable, so I'm kinda here for it. I've been reading some stuff from the GOP platform and I'm legitimately scared for America (and the rest of the world ), really brought it home that Trump is not just a joke which is kinda how we treat him over here I thought the Republican party would drag him towards the centre, couldn't have been more wrong

So Kasich is some type of Senator Palpatine ready to turn into the Lord Sith?
Kasich/Hailey would be a formidable team...the "the new age republicans"

Hillary can pick whoever she wants as VP now that Trump has picked the uber-social conservative Mike Pence.
Sanders was never going to be an option...but now Warren, Booker, and Brown are probably off the list as well. Hillary is now free to choose a more moderate, low key Veep.

There's no evidence to support that their influence will diminish, on the contrary, with their platform this year being the most anti-LGBTQ in history. If they didn't learn after 2012 and their infamous autopsy report, then they'll never learn. They may grow more friendly towards immigration reform eventually, to stay relevant in electoral politics, but their social issue garbage will be there for a long time to come.

Obviously Trump has a traitor in their campaign. Between plagiarizing Michelle and including a rickroll, it's obvious that whoever wrote Melania's speech was trolling the hell out of them. They'll be fired, but it was totally worth it
