The whole purpose of fans buying singles is so that the artist gets money. Everything in the music industry is designed for the artist and their label to get money. Singles, albums, tours, merchandise, tickets for random performances, literally everything.

This is the key point that people seem to forget. An artist couldn't give two ****s about having #1s as long as they're getting the cash. And not to mention, someone like Beyoncé who's been in the game for what 17 years does not need neither recognition nor respect because she has it already.

She's literally one of the most praised celebrities in the business, and her renowned performing abilities are mentioned all the time.

She's been a synonym for greatness for a while now, and you'll have to deal.

What does it give you to know that she gets praised for what she does? I mean any artist gets it as long as the body of work is at least decent. Plus even my flop fave is making a lot of cash right now and she's nothing near acclaimed nor really good @singing/dancing. Yet her Vegas is still outselling, I doubt Bey could outsell Vegas if she was in the same position Britney is now.

Selena Quintanilla, who I had never in my life heard of before going on online forums like this one, is one of the most mediocre artists I have ever heard. Someone told me something called "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" was an iconic hit for all Spanish speaking people, and I YouTube'd it only to hear some cheesy, disposable garbage sung by an ugly, classless woman. She was 100% local to Mexico and the Mexican-American community in the States. No certifications anywhere else, no live performances anywhere else that I could find.
