You are completely right that it's not the same era, but there are still elements that do sound very UF also. So people are forgiven for calling it a rehash. The beat as the chorus explodes in is SO similar.
I've given a few listens and basically I've decided I think the production is very good, which I was originally slayed by, but I don't think it's actually that catchy.
