I guess the way the battle system works is that the two human characters link with the 4 divine elemental characters which grant them different abilities.

Oh, excuse my rudeness, I misinterpreted what you meant.
And if I remember correctly, you should start getting them soon.
The first half of the game is about Sheena getting them and Colette turning into an angel.

I loved Atelier Iris 1,2 and 3.
Also Ar Tonelico 2 was FANTASTIC

Too bad AT3 was a mess
