It's because, I'm going to get crucified for this, sappy ballads sell albums.
Rolling around on the ground in a wedding dress and dancing in front of burning crosses does not. The amount of units she pushed regardless of the controversy was remarkable and unheard of. Playing it safe sells more, which is exactly what Whitney did. Let's be real.
And sales have nothing to do with impact in this case. She's MADONNA. The 80s were about Michael and Madonna. No one else. When you see pictures of the 80s, you see their faces plastered at the forefront.
She contributed so much in pop music throughout the years. She's truly an innovator! Her career has yet to hit any bumpy roads, she's been consistent since the 80's...
