ATRL Feature
Idea: The 'Auto'-feature:
Basically, the 'auto'-feature is one many forums already have. It's there to enhance and de-complicate our way of posting and includes the following:
Who doesn't know the struggles? Every day we stumble upon a bulk of blank boxes on ATRL just because the Youtube Embed option does't always copy the right link into the editing box. Or the struggle of having to go through all BB Code Tags to embed other video sites. Well, those days would be gone with this feature. All you would have to do now for a video to be embedded in your post is to simply put the youtube link into the editing box and click 'Post Reply'. That's it as it would be automatically embedded.
This feature wouldn't just stop at Youtube, as well. The links of other popular video sites such as Vimeo or Dailymotion would easily be embedded through the same procedure and thus, make life on ATRL easier as there are a variety of music videos only to be found on those sites and posting becomes much smoother.
In the past two years, Spotify, Vine, Twitter and Instagram have become cores of many discussions on ATRL, as well. The auto-embed feature would enhance our daily experience by being able to also embed these sites automatically. Especially many users seem to have problems to be able to post Instagram pictures because it's so complicated. If all you need to post is the link for it to be embedded those worries are gone!
Instagram
Twitter
The auto-save option is self-explanatory. While creating your post, especially lengthy ones such as an OP, this option would always automatically safe your text and let you re-open the latest saved edit. This is incredibly useful as the ATRL servers break down quite often or the text sometimes disappears after one refreshes the page.

The ATRL Upvote/Downvote System
As any strong innovator knows, sometimes it's not about reinventing the wheel, but rather identifying existing structures that would be a good fit for your product. With this in mind, I've adapted the popular upvote/downvote system from sites like Reddit as a tool to improve and innovate the ATRL experience. I believe putting a system like this in place on ATRL provides the users a greater level of power in controlling the digital content they wish to see, increases the liklihood of higher quality threads being created, and essentially makes the job of moderators easier. More info, and mock up screen shot below.
How does it work? Well, as you see in the image above, up and down arrows have been added to the right of thread titles. I used an arrow design already found on ATRL as to streamline the look of this feature and remain in the ATRL aesthetic without appearing out of place. Arrows are grey, and turn red once you click on them. Like what you see? If you think a thread is interesting, high quality, and worth being seen, you click the up arrow. On the other hand, if a thread appears that is of low quality (perhaps it's yet another popgirl vs. popgirl thread already discussed ad nauseam on ATRL) you click the down arrow. Everyone's clicks are aggregated and threads with many up votes rise to the top of the page, while those with lots of down votes sink and are hidden beneath the better threads. As mentioned above, this puts the power in the hands of the ATRL user - if you're sick of the same banal topics being discussed, you have the ability to down vote a thread. On the flip side, when you come across a thread that shows new perspectives or information, the up vote comes in handy. I would then argue that this system helps ensure higher quality threads are created. Are you really going to put together a pointless thread if you know it's going to be down voted and buried beneath the rest? To have a thread obtain enough up votes to keep it near the top of the forum, you're going to put more thought into creating it. The upvote/downvote system also helps lessen the load of the moderators in the sense that the workload of monitoring low quality threads is shared with the users themselves. Threads that in the past would have been warned and closed, will likely receive enough downvotes that they plummet to the bottom of ATRL and receive significantly less attention.
For the reasons stated above, I feel that an upvote/downvote system on ATRL would be an interesting innovation in ATRL's evolution. It would be a successful method of ensuring the continued quality of our discussions, as well as a new tool for providing ATRL users with a voice and the power to dictate what sort of content we want to see on our site.

ATRL's Weekly Magazine
First I would like to say that I noticed ATRL just loves retrospectives. That's why we have: Your Top Ten, Monthly reports on Warnings, Best Of's and others.
Why not have a place that could contain all the big events and things that happened on ATRL over the course of a week?
That place would be called ATRL's Weekly Magazine. Online, of course.
As ATRL loves to look back the magazine could be a really nice idea and it would be really helpful for the ones that aren't so active on ATRL anymore or were banned or for other reasons.
Let's say the magazine would spread over 6 pages that could concern various topics.
We could have a general topics part. Sports ( I saw that ATRL is interested in tennis mostly but also the World Cup thread is one of the biggest ones on ATRL), World Events and others.
The Music section would include:
Song of the Week
Video of the Week
Album of the Week
The section could include also: Artist of the Week, Musical events of the Week, Chart toppers, records and others.
The last section would be about ATRL cause ultimately ATRL members love the ones related to our community. That's why we always see threads like: Best ATRL member, Most Iconic ATRL member, Best thread of 2014, Best posts and so on.
This could could include sections like:
Member of the Week
Mod of the Week
Thread of the Week and Post of the Week
Quote of the Week
This section would probably be the largest and could also include a weekly interview with an ATRLer. We already have the thread. We could include also the reviews of the week from the reviews thread. The Top Posters of the Week and the Top Songs chart could also be here.
Name changes, banned members and people that returned from the banland included.
Avatars, gifs of the week. Everything ATRL loves.
We could also have weekly updates on ATRL and statistics.
So basically the magazine would not be only for fun, as looking back at the previous week, but also for the non-active members of the site. They could read the ATRL events for a week in a few minutes and not be losing anything.
We have tons of talented users in Photoshop on this site and some of them could create the design of it, and the Magazine posts would be in collaboration with the mods because they could bring the statistics of the week easier. They could also name mod of the week by seeing who was the most active and efficient.
Helpful and fun.
Okay, don't judge me on my sketches please, I'm not good at making graphics but I'm trying my best. The following display of my idea is just a sketch, the talented photoshop users could make amazing looks for the magazine. The sections displayed in my sketch would be divided in different pages and of course the content of those sections are not the only ones that are showing in the sketch, we could get other ideas and make it more fun and helpful.

Essentially, what we have is an Internet Relay Chat. First of all, this will only be for members so the image is just for a bit of light-heartedness. Gaga or Perez or any guests won’t be able to see or partake in the chat.
Anyway, I shall quickly explain the mechanics of the chat. Open to only Members, the chat is accessed by the link next to your name (circled in white). This would lead you to the Chatbox on the page in the image above. On the side you can see all the members who are there and scroll up and down if need be. The main bit is the box where people are sending messages and can talk. When a person leaves or enters – it is signified in white. The bottom has a Menu where you can change font colour and those things. Before it are your emoticons. The long box is where you would write your message and adjacent is the send button
.
ALSO, you can have private chats by clicking a members name on the side and it opens a separate box for you and one other to talk privately.
The IRC chat is extremely simple to grasp and I think would be of huge benefit to ATRL. It allows people to talk not only live but with speed. It’s amazing to bring people from all over the world into such a fast paced means of communication. Obviously, swear words and normal ATRL rules apply.
I think you should implement (and vote for me) as you can see, it’s a hugely useful feature that ATRL would have and makes the community a lot stronger and closer. It’s convenient and you don’t need to go make tinychats or somewhere else to have chats.
