I don't know if they dated, I thought it was more of a rebound situation.
I only say this because I think they're going to do more with Spencer this season, I think they'll try and flesh out smaller characters, which would help the future of this show.
If he ends up with Sasha/Rosita I bet his partner will die this season. I have a feeling Rosita will die. I say this because they probably won't kill a major character with Negan and everybody will be disappointed by the choice and they'll flip the show upside down for season 8, and do what they probably should have done going into season 7, I personally hope Carl dies, as it'll bring a lot of drama and would destroy Rick, which we would then probably see Rick die not to long after Carl, although I think writers will kill Rick, then Carl simply because Carl could step up as a "leader" and give the show a new life, even tho I'm not here for that.
I reckon we'll see more Carol and Daryl interaction this season. I hope queen Carol is safe, but she could be the major death at the end of season 7. It would completely Shake Daryl. But I actually feel Carol is safe atm, she gives the show a completely different vibe, and her acting is breathtaking. Morgan will leave Ricks group and join those people on the horses (which could give the show different characters in different locations, that we love and give the show a bigger scope, somewhat like Game of Thrones, which I assume would be a goal for the show runners as this could open up so much from story to introducing new characters, I think Carol will stay for a while but rejoin the group. Placing these characters in different areas like this, ones we've known for a long time but won't overly miss from Ricks group is a smart move, because we will have familiar faces, and I also think it'll help certain characters grow that don't really feel like they fit well with Ricks group. People like Morgan, and Father Gabrielle. Who I think have plenty more stories in them, but can't be achieved where they currently are in the show.
I also think Jesus can hold the Hillside area on his own as well, I feel like Spencer / Rosita may end up there as well. It's warrior meets military. And I could see Rosita finding her place there after the loss of Abraham and not really having anything anymore, and maybe Spencer will just follow because he loves her or something.
I think this show has great characters actually and even the ones that I don't like it's simply because I can see more potential in them but are unable to reach their full potential with Ricks group, because Ricks people are literally like Super Heros at this point. They've got this world down, they can defeat walkers like its there day job, there biggest threat is people right now. And I honesty don't see Rick or any of the other big characters dying of a walker bite at this point, they are all better and smarter than that at this point. It will be people like Negan who will determine the fate of these characters.
I mean seeing Abraham die at the hands of a walker? When he's never shown weakness? No. They'll give him the death he deserves hopefully.
There are people in this world that aren't equipt for this world, but that could leave room for some very interesting storytelling.
That's why I think we need other places like Hillside and The Kingdom for these characters to go, and let Ricks group be the badasses that they are, on their own, let them be savage and fight for safety and hope. Hillside is seemingly secure, as long as they supply Negan, which means people that aren't "equipt" for this world now have a place to go. Which could make the show have an even larger world which I believe is there goal going into season 7, or at least I think it should be.
Change is sometimes difficult, and people say don't fix it if isn't broke, but the creators seem like they don't want this show to ever end and therefor the show will need to grow and show real signs of evolution, rather then drag out familiar stories over and over again and run this show into its coffin, they will need change. Whether this happens gradually over time, or whatever I think this is the direction the show will end up taking, and hopefully they do it justice.
