Whatever it was, it didn't sound good, and I don't think she was singing pitch perfect either. She wasn't projecting, she was screaming.
Wendy's "shine on me" part in Happiness is higher than that and she handles it perfectly, she doesn't scream out to hit the notes like the Hello Venus girl.
Next time they need to leave her part to the MR because she just can't sing it live.
I would rather she sound shrill than hurt her voice, and I am slightly embarrassed to have to tell you this, but yes, she was on pitch the entire time except for the very beginning of the first part where she was flat for about a second. I sincerely hope you already knew that cause if not that's just sad. And if you ever want to have a serious conversation about singing with somebody, NEVER use the word "screaming" because you will be wrong 99% of the time. It's only ever applied to Christina Aguilera in pop music; singing loudly does not mean screaming, because screaming refers to where tension is in the body, not the tone. Seoyoung is fine, don't worry.
Wendy does not even sort of handle the bridge of Happiness perfectly, don't EVEN. While in their radio performances she did it well, she usually does it in a really fragile mix that she shoots up to the high notes by pumping her diaphragm, which is why her voice keeps cracking while doing it. It's not like that's wrong, but that's the reason she sounds so quiet and thin on those parts. She physically can't be any louder cause her mix up there isn't strong enough for it. It's because she, despite being highly trained, has a weak chest voice.
Seoyoung definitely would've sounded nicer if she'd mixed it but what she did wasn't wrong at all, and I'm actually impressed with her ability to keep resonance up there. She could stand to tone it down a little though cause she's so much louder than the other girls, but that reflects badly on them, not her. Maybe they could turn her mic down a little.
I am in DISBELIEF at the comments about Seoyoung. Her parts are all really high belts, and she was perfectly on key during all of them, and projecting really well. Those are notes that Hyorin, for example, would have to clutch a shard of broken glass to hit consistently. You guys are SO used to idols whispering over a backing track that when someone can actually project well in the upper register you think they're screaming.
Like, go watch some Mu Bank performances from 2009. This is what singing live actually sounds like. It can potentially be loud. Seoyoung is one of the strongest lead vocalists from any girl group atm, and if anything, y'all should be praising the HV main vocals for singing so well live without a high backing track.
Blueberry OUT.
That part is annoying and doesn't even in sync with the rest of the song
If the song is actually like this then it's not her fault tho

If she can't hit the notes live, she shouldn't be doing it, end of. Her technique was bad and she was clearly straining to hit the notes. And yes she was off key because there was MR in the background and you can clearly hear the difference in pitching.
Wendy handles it way better because she maintains her projection whilst moving. The choreography requires her to do sudden hand movements whilst singing, so she handles it very well. Of course when she's on radio she's even better as the choreography is not getting in the way.
That Hello Venus girl needs to work on her pitch, she's not even doing much during her part so she shouldn't be struggling so much to hit the notes if she as good a vocalist as you say.
She got negative comments on her part from nearly everyone in the YouTube comments and even on this thread as well, so there's no point trying to deny that her part didn't sound good.
If the recorded song sounds the same then it's down to the production and songwriting team for messing up, but otherwise it looks like she's just not suited to the part.
