But I don't get why it's always RCA's marketing budget that is the problem. Hilary did 2 hard days of promoting during release week before she was over it and it's not like she didn't cancel numerous events like the KCA's and Thanksgiving Day Parade or go on vacation after AAY and now the album release. The numbers aren't bad at all but they are 100 percent her fans doing because Kelly and Michael, GMA, and The View aren't exactly game-changing slots nor are they geared toward her audience.
It would make zero fiscal sense for RCA to give her a big budget towards marketing considering that everyone including the fans thought this would do poorly in album sales and Hilary clearly doesn't want to do a lot of promo so why would they waste the expense? It's not all RCA's fault.

Well first off, the KCA's have a valid reason for having been canceled. Can't go into more detail on that. Thanksgiving Parade was a serious scheduling conflict that Hilary, theoretically, could have foreseen and avoided but there's nothing to suggest that her power as a
supporting actress could have changed her shooting/rehearsal time and tbqh she had every right to want Thanksgiving off when AAY was already done on every chart.
This whole "everyone including her fans had low expectations" stuff ends here. We
formulated that opinion that she would flop
based on what we had in front of us.
A) The lack of hype for the album. There were no advertisements in any major publications and/or online websites until the week of release. Reviews are scarce and overall interest was at a low because...
B) "Sparks" was not charting due to the
fact that
it wasn't sent for adds on the only obvious format (CHR/Pop) that made sense to play Sparks.
C) There was next to no interaction between Hilary and her fans before every major part of the campaign including the single premiere and music video premiere. (That's on H and Andre/boo management)
Perhaps, Hilary was upset that RCA was rushing the album, or that she had to go in a different direction for some of it and that's why she didn't tweet much about certain things. No one is only blaming RCA for anything that they shouldn't be blamed for. Flying around to do promotion and booking performance slots and paying for all that goes into the promotional aspect of the job isn't Hilary's responsibility. It might be her album, but she IS signed to a major label.
Hilary did tweet out all throughout the week about the album and did the promo she was scheduled for like she needed to. She's still doing some promo and will continue to (or so we hear) based on what the label is willing to pay for. Tomorrow she's flying to San Francisco (a major city) to be in-studio at two radio stations and will hopefully be doing more after. But things are not gonna go much further if she's not being pushed (by the label) at radio.
Which reminds me, if they send her to pop and have a banner, they can highlight things like:
- "Over 20 million streams for Sparks to date"
And
- "Off the top 3 selling and #1 iTunes charting album"
